Fabia vrs ASZ egr delete

Featured Replies

Orite lads. couple of questions. I have a 53 plate fabia vrs, decated and now just recently egr deleted too. when I first did the mod I put the blanking plate onto the pipe that came up from the exhaust manifold, and the car was unreal pick up difference, but the pipe cracked so I put it straight on the exhaust manifold and the car sometimes picks up and goes like stink and other times (mostly) not that great. it's like turbo lag sort of thing. I was wondering if it's to do with the vacum pipes that go to the egr valve if they should be blanked or left to atmospheric pressure. also if I put an s2000 filter on it will it chatter (turbo stall noise)? Any advice much appreciated. cheers

No, it's a turbodiesel, it doesn't have a throttle butterfly, a dump valve or a wastegate like petrol turbos do. You can't make it sound like a petrol turbo, end of.

Vacuum pipes that have been disconnected from the EGR need to be blanked/blocked off.

Can someone tell me why the engine management light came on and the car lost power for about 2 mins? I thought ASZ engines were fine as they have a vacum operated egr valve?

I don't know for sure, but I expect it goes like this:

Although there isn't any direct feedback on the physical position of the EGR's valves, the ECU will expect to see changes in MAF and MAP sensor readings when it thinks it has added exhaust gas into the intake. If it doesn't see these changes, it knows the EGR isn't working and throws a fault light.

You need to get the egr mapped out or the light comes on. As for the vacuum pipe just put a bolt in it to block it off. Some cars chatter with a cone and some don't, I've run 3 different types of cone filter and not have chattered but others have run the same and have, only way to tell is to try and see but ideally needs to be mapped so it boosts harder

I really can't see how you can 'stall' the impeller to get chatter if there's no throttle plate to 'stall' it with. A diesel continues to pump compressed air even when you lift off the loud pedal because that pedal only controls fuel delivery. I guess if you brake the engine really hard from flat out it might cavitate. Febrile minds have febrile imaginations though.

im gonna hybrid 150 it soon with a front mount and a miltek so ill get it mapped once this happens cheers I think my turbo may be on its way out tho as the car doesn't boost till 2,500 and when I first deleted the egr the car was rapid but I think that the pipe going from the exhaust manifold to the egr that I first blanked split and started leaking basically straight off the manifold I had to do another 20 miles to get home do you think it will of got the turbo vains to hot? or something? cheers

I blanked my EGR on the manifold (as you have to) when I disabled my EGR.

A track session at Castle Combe generated enough heat to caused the gasket under the blanking plate to dissolve.

I drove 50 miles home and then probably another 50 miles throughout the following week before I could get to the garage and get a new gasket fitted.

no ill effects to the turbo and I ran perfectly once the gasket had ben changed.

My understanding is all the gasket dissolving did (which would be the same as your pipe splitting) was create a "blowly exhaust" before the cat.
