Will they write it off!?

Featured Replies

Today some lorry scraped my car. It's a small piece of damage. But I wondered if it goes through the insurance - which I suspect it will - will they write it off. Car is a 76k mile Fabia Estate on a Y reg. Pictures to follow!

Depends where it is! Wing?

I should imagine the cost to respray some panels (assuming no replacements to buy) shouldn't exceed the value of that car which I would reckon is around £1,500 or so.  Good luck.

100k miles Y plate Fabia written off for a tailgate and rear bumper...

It's payout as a write off was £1,000 to the previous owner.

So depends on if the panels can be saved (in the eyes of an insurance assesor, not one of us that is happy with lots of filler...) and how many are damaged.

It's a small scrape on the back quarter by the light.

Ohh wow this happened on my fathers Fabia cost £1100 under insurance - new panel, new light and respray!

It's a small scrape on the back quarter by the light.

So around a couple of hundred, maybe three to sort.  Doubt they will write it off for that. :)

Here's a photo. Small damage but worried insurance will view it as a life changing event.

It's deeper than the photo shows.

That's exactly the same as damage caused to his! New panel new light and a spray should be about £1100 insurance company shouldn't have any issues with it! If not buy it back pop down to a local bodyshop and ask how much to see if worth doing!

£1100 - Jeez. I think they will have a problem. It was only less bad than it could have been because I gave the driver a face that said 'your driving isn't going as well as you think it is'. He was happily pulling across the back of it tighter and tighter - a 63 plate lorry that had already had a brand new body because they'd driven it through a tree branch.

Well I was parked?

Same as what happened here once again! Shouldn't be an issue sorting it IMO I'll find a pic of the damage tomoz!

New Panel is just nonsense there are still good panel beaters around.

(& i was a panel beater)

Cheers - £1100 seems like a daft amount of money to spend on a car that most people would pay £1100 not to be associated with. Do you reckon they can spray it not green?!

Insurance companies tend to look at life differently, pragmatism is replaced by process and rules it seems.

Yup the initial price up takes into considerations new rather than used / repaired panels mostly!

So if you think a car will be Written off with ridiculous quotes, then do not give them the opportunity.

Thats unless you want it written off,

dont use Kerbside Autos, but just get the Minor and not very expensive repair done maybe.

Hmm - so how does that work practically?

You can't replace the rear quarters as they are not a "panel" - That will be easy enough to fill and paint though.

Ohh sorry for the misleading information the insurers details on repair was sketchy to say the least!

Helpful insurers want me to have the vehicle collected by their garage, or have me take it to one an hour round trip away. Great.

If it was me I'd stay until it's been assessed just to keep you informed and also they'll give you a good idea right from the start about what their report will say

Sorry mate, stay where?

The workshop who are assessing the car then you have the use of it until the parts have arrived too! However I suppose it might not work as it depends on how quickly they asses it
