Stereo not turning off / ignition switch

Featured Replies

I bought a new stereo appradio 2 sph-da100, i got a wiring adapter and plugged everthing up, the stereo was working fine, but when I take the keys out the radio stays on.

I understand it's to do with the ignition switched wire but i just don't understand it because all of the wires are in the correct position, what can i try?

on the headunits loom you need to switch the ign live and perm live around.

How did you get an ignition live in the first place? The mk2 octavia doesnt have one

it must not be an ignition live then, ok i will try what you said.

i read somewhere that i can run the ignition switched wire from the headunit to a fuse?? if so how do i know which fuse?

There is no switched live going to the HU, its controlled by CAN. You need to run a switched live from the fuse box or use a clever CAN converter box doobry.

OK, do you know where I can buy a wire to extend the ignition switched?  i mean what kind of electrical wire is it?

Piggy back fuse from eBay?

Or a repair wire from a dealer or TPS.

simply use any cable, even speaker cable will do.

Buy a fuse tap and find a switched live in the fuse box at the end of the dash

right! i will have a go doing that

How do i know which is a switched live in the fuse box? is it safe to try random slots that are not in use?

thanks for the help

You can use a multimeter to test by holding the positive probe on the fuse slot and the negative probe line on any metallic grounding point (there is screw nearby the top of the panel). If a voltage is only present with the ignition on, you are in luck.

I read somewhere that the bottom half of the panel is switched live and the top half permanent live. I am not sure how true this is, but probably makes things easier to find one.

If there isn't already a fuse in a slot it won't work as there won't be a connection at the bottom, just power at the top (positive side).

To identify a switched live look for something like the rear wiper, heated rear screen etc which only works when the ignition is on.

The neatest option is to buy a repair wire which fits into the back of an unused slot and then you run the wire up to the HU and stick a fuse in the slot.
