Every now and again my starter motor screeches on start up… how can I go about fixing it, not looking to replace the starter.

You sure it's not the auxiliary drive belt slipping?

My stater was was making a similar noise when I got my Skoda. My mechanic took it off and greased it up it's been spot on since.

Take starter off, give it a damn good clean and, re-grease where applicable..

Mine does this but only from a cold start. Quiet as a mouse when it does a warm/hot start
