Octavia ICE Question (another one)

Featured Replies

I have 300W RMS Logitech Speakers in a 5.1 setup for the PC. In general' date=' I think it's an absolutely cracking setup, but other people will just diss Logitech for getting a THX sticker on everything they do and ruining the market.

I don't believe that personally, but it all comes back to opinion...

Hmmmmmm..............

The reason I no longer spend a fortune on ICE is due to my Home Cinema fetish. :D

Not listened to the logitech system so can't comment. Last year I did choose a Denon amp over some THX rated stuff but then again the new THX Select systems are more a marketing ploy if you ask me.

I currently sit with a setup that owes me about

Ahh yes, I'd agree with that, some of the THX systems do use it as a ploy. A lot of audiophiles will argue that the Logitechs aren't really that good.

Well for my specifications they are excellent. I have problems with buying a large system like what you have - I still live at home, so space is a premium being that I only have a modest bedroom to myself.

I'm hoping to correct this though ;)

It would be best for you if you could actually HEAR the speakers before buying them :)

Maybe then you will buy the Pioneer speakers or some other that you didn't even think of.

Update.

Going against the advice of a few people here.

I bought TS-G1718, and TS-G1316 for a total of

OK

Following on from the fact I have purchased these...

What is the best way to install these? Dad has offered to help me with this, he has a crimping tool (so we can put spades on the car's wiring)

On the original setup, I have in the car 2 connectors that go into each speaker.

I assume ONE of these wires comes from the stereo, and the other goes out to the tweeter.

Few questions..

1. How can you tell these apart?

2. If I were to reconnect them, and I get them wrong, will it destroy the original speakers?

3. Now i'm going to co-axials, i'd assume the tweeters in the doors and the wiring between them will become redundant, that's fine though I guess.

I think the biggest question though

out of the two connectors, which of the two wires are to be connected to the new speakers?

I'd assume that if i connect the wrong ones, i'd end up with silence (as they would then be connected to the tweeters and that's it - Connecting thme to the other 2 wires would rule this out :D

Remove the Skoda speaker from it's housing, put the stereo on, pull off a connector and if only the tweeter stops working you want the other connector. If all goes quiet you have got the right one. :)

So what about the connectors? I'm ok just to remove the connectors and spade them up yars?

Cheers btw :D

The 1316 and 1718 are not co-axial they are dual cone, no tweeters.

See how you feel but I fear the sound may be a bit flat and not do justice to a new head unit.

I would experiment and see whether the sound is better with or without the front Skoda tweeter connected.

Hmmm point taken.

How would they be connected then though?

Would I have to combine the two connectors into one set of spades?

Ahh! Nice!

I'd assume having just the 1316 in the rear would be fine on it's own?

Cheers all !

Should be, you certainly don't want to leave those standard rear tweaters in use.

Ohhhh no!

Thanks again Lee. Btw, I didnt think the front tweeters were that bad, kinda why I went for the 1718's for the front. See how it goes!

  • 3 months later...

So, did you ever fit the speakers? (Main and tweeters?)
