Just ordered Octavia SE 2.0 TDi 4x4 from Newmarket Skoda in Dunfermline. Great service there.

 

I have a question about the MDI and phones/storage devices and audio.

 

I currently have a HTC Windows Phone.I also use a Nexus tablet (android), and I have an ancient iPhone that I use for Skype functionality (as the Windows phone doesn't support all Skype features currently - fantastic Microsoft own-goal). Typically I listen to music from my Windows Phone.

 

Will I be able to view my tracklistings on my Windows Phone via bluetooth and/or MDI? I successfully connected the phone by bluetooth with the salesman's car and was able to advance and go back through tracks once selected on the phone, but tracklistings were not available so I couldn't select an album in the first place from the head unit.

 

I've done a search here but there appears to be more confusion than agreement on what is possible so I'd be really grateful if people would share what is working for them - aiming for maximum control via the head unit.

 

Clearly my main question at this point is "do I order the MDI" and if I do that am I closing any doors/restricting any functionality with my Windows/Android devices?

I don't think you'll ever have track listing using Bluetooth. AVRCP and A2DP doesn't support something like this.

But you can play music and do pause, next, prev from the Columbus' screen (that's Bluetooth AVRCP profile task).

 

However, using the normal USB port (not MDI), you can connect an iPod and get all contents on screen of the Columbus.

Not sure however how a Windows Phone would behave by USB.

 

Why wouldn't you get to a dealer and test on real device? I guess that should be no problem if you're a potential customer.

If I connect my HTC One X via BT I don't get tracklistings. If I connect a Nexus 7 tablet, I do.

 

It all depends if the device supports it in the bluetooth stack or not. The head unit does support it. This is with a Columbus.

I would recommend going to the dealer to try it out

The bluetooth support (for audio, album artwork, phonebook, contact pictures) is very dependant on the phone & phone software you have.

As AndyVee says, it is supported by the Columbus but depending on your phone some of the functions are not supported.

 

There are several threads about BT support for Bolero, Amunsen & Columbus with details of which phones work with which features.

 

Better to know before hand rather than be dissapointed when your car arrives
