Back in a mk1 1.8t 4x4 after being bored by mk2 vrs tfsi

Featured Replies

I recently sold my mk2 race blue vrs as it seemed a bit boring , and have come back to the mk1 with a black 1.8t 4x4 estate its so soft and comfortable not for long though I think shark and coilovers are coming this way, ive already got some 18inch bbs mk4 golf anniversary wheels to fit.

Glad you've seen the light and realised how superior the mk1 is to the fat ugly mk2 lol

Im getting tempted by the mk2 now. Unless i can breath some more uumph into my mk1 cheaply

Strange move ? I know what you mean though. I've also got an old 'modern classic' at home with the 4x4 and if you like being involved in and 'feeling' the driving both do a better job than the modern VAG cars I can get my hands on which are refined, honed and let's face it - do everything better on paper !!!

Belive it or not the 1.8ts seem to be better on fuel than the newer 2.0t yes the mk2 is newer and a bit more refined and ive already had a mk2 vrs and a mk2 4x4 1.9tdi but as far as bang for your buck gose the mk1 wins all day long, there is loads of spares on ebay for the mk1s as well it was a no brainer for me. This 4x4 came up local to me for a good price and after already owning two mk1 vrs,s I thought go for it.

And you never get tired of the whole 'Q-car' (WTFWT?!) factor in the 4x4 !

I've just bought the same car, i was lucky enough to find a low mileage one owner car. I had a mk1 VRS a few years back, but this suits my needs better at the moment.

I don't like the interior, might look at changing the seats, does anyone know what others fit int to mk1?

I like the height of the suspension, make it practical for where I live, but what other mods do people do the 4x4's.

The problem is, it's so original, its even got the Skoda bulb kit in the back.

I'm not sure if I should mess around with it???

Get it remapped for some extra grunt :)

Any seats from mk4 golf platform cars will fit, octavia, leon and a3.

Anything from the mk4 Golf platform / A3 / Leon.

Likewise a carpet from a Golf should drop in to replace the vRS white one.

Go for Golf Mk4 Recaro leather, looks well nice ;)http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/311375-black-leather-lk-door-inserts-installed-on-vrs-triple-black-rulespics/

get anything mk4 post 2002 as they will have the side air bags as well.  BORA Leathers of same vintage are the mutts danglies if you can find them in good nic.

LPG :D

if you want the Uber Sleeper (i.e - Taxi!)  look the you have to throw on the Audi a3 15" pepperpot alloys and take the mud flaps off :D

I have a set of golf mk4 18inch bbs anniversary wheels waiting in the garage to go on oem all the way :p

I suspect you have the delightful yellow interior?

...seat covers, you kind of get used to it once the caravan curtain cloth is out of sight!

...L&K leather? keeps the original look, and avoid replacing most interior panels (my conclusion anyway!)

Its the same yellow colour interior as my first car an old x reg mini metro from about 1983 :D

I find it a bit more tolerable when I think along these lines...

Just need to add in the play station steering wheel.... :D

On the subject of steering wheels. The cheapest fix is one of the sew on leather kits off ebay. Make sure you get the right size though. They are not as hard wearing as a genuine s2/3/4/6/8/TT wheel but they make a hell of a difference to the driving experience
