Brake light constantly on after brake change

Featured Replies

hey folks,

so ive just changed my rear discs and pads and ive noticed my back brake lights is constantly on, does anyone have any suggestions what I may of done wrong?

also yesterday afternoon I went to pull out of my street and there was nothing there even with foot to the floor there was just NOTHING! then a few seconds later it would kick in and go back to normal... it is now doing this more frequently. Any suggestions on this one too?

Did you bleed the system after changing everything? Adjusted any cables?

Nope nothing..was i suppose too? Lol

Not sure on the Fabia but 99% of cars have the brake light switch on the brake pedal,so changing pads/brakes etc will have no effect on the lights.

When you started changing the pads did you leave the brake reservoir lid off? When you change the pads you're supposed to push the caliper piston back with some sort of tool like a gclamp then once it's all done bleed the system to make sure there is no air in. That could be why your braking and nothing is there because air is in the lines.

I wouldn't go anywhere near your car until you have it sorted. The only thing that's stopping your machine from smashing into someone is your brakes and if they ain't working your f***ed.

No need to bleed brakes after renewing pads/discs/shoes etc.

Only if the hyd circuit has been split, new pipe/caliper/cylinder, then needs bleeding :)

It'll be your brake light switch on the pedal misbehaving.

ISTR that the car/ECU doesn't add power if you're on the brakes. If the switch is busted or intermittently so, that might explain the situation.

Yea sounds like the brake light switch has fallen out or broken. You have to remove the drivers side of the dash panel to get to it easily. The engine will cut power when it See's the brake lights on so explaineds why no power

To add to an old thread, Had this same issue this morning with my car. same light issue and power problem in 1st and 2nd, Found yanking my pedal right up would work to get lights off to stop the batt draining. Had spoken to a few mechanics in work, They feel a faulty BLS could cause power loss issues as iot would be confusing the ECU into thinking the brake are on. I have purchased a new BLS. Did the OP get this sorted with a new Brake Light Switch?

Let me know what sorted it for you bro!

Of course it's the BLS, it always is on VAG group cars, it's so common it ought to be on the service schedule, change BLS every 60k!

Edit: Bro'  :p
