Homage to the 'Bug-eye'

Featured Replies

Just wondering if instead of having to refer to pre-FL and FL we could designate the first version as the

Bug-eye or would that upset another forum dedicated to the Sprite?

It certainly describes mine perfectly.

Ahem blind yeti and the eyed one ;)

I always refer to them as the bug eye, indoor and outdoor.

That way it's obvious which one you mean.

'Bug-eyed' is surely far more appropriate for the raised lights of the Sprite and there are more than one or two other SUV/crossover models that have copied introduced prominent round fogs/DRLs since the original Yeti.

But didn't this come up a while ago?  Wasn't that where the term 'Classic' was suggested for the pre-FL Yeti - the one that I adopted for my signature?  Much nicer, IMHO

Classic is usually a bog standard cheap trim level with manual wind up windows and no air-con though...  in certain other Skodas.

The first thing that sprang to mind when I saw the title of this thread was that someone had put a bonnet scoop and gold alloys on a Yeti :)

Yes, likewise. So I now have two bugeyes!

My vote would be "Classic". For me the fogs would have to come partially above the line of the bonnet to be "bug-eye" and whilst I'm all for a bit of personalisation of the Yeti I think that might be a step too far.......

I prefer 'Original'

So...Original, Indoor, Otdoor

How about:

Mk1 for the pre-FL

Mk1.5 for the FL (ie the .5 refers to midlife facelift)

... a system that people use for a lot of other models and will still work when the Mk2 comes out, then gets a facelift, etc etc etc....

Calling the new model ' FL ' is good as it matches the unfriendly Corporate image better..... :)

Or we could go down the old Land Rover methodology:

Series 1 for the original,

Series 1A for the facelift,

Then if/when the new model comes out in a few years time it will be a Series 2.

I doubt that any stylist would have the b...s to try it again which to me makes it special in a one-off sense.

I just say "my current Yeti" so I'm already set up for the next one. :giggle:

Yes I refer to "my current wife" in those terms too. Keeps her on her toes (well    er     nevermind).

Do the bruises show?

Throwing my hat in the ring:-

I prefer 'Original'

When the next new version/model/shape comes out, call it Mark 2, LWB or what ever. Well this years is called the F/L by a fair few owners.

A great thing about all this is that we all own/drive a great car in what seems a very exclusive club without having to renew membership each year.

I've always known the Sprite as the Frogeye, so perhaps the classic Yeti could be the Fogeye, which is maybe more appropriate :)

Update: I wondered why I wasn't familiar with the Bugeye term so checked on Wikipedia. Frogeye is the UK term and Bugeye is from the US.

Given the Yeti lights setup, Foureyes would be appropriate too.

Original, Indoor, Outdoor for me too.

Just call it a "Yeti" as it was the original and is the best looking.

The facelift can just be called the "imposter"

Clarence, Indoor, Outdoor.

I really wasn't sure when I first saw the I/O but it's definitely growing on me.
