Swapping Felicia Gearboxes 1.6/1.3

Featured Replies

So been thinking about getting a 1.3 box for my AFH 16v which currently has a 1.6 box. If I bought a 1.3 would I need to modify the 1.6 box to fit back to the 1.3 if doing a swap leaving two viable cars? I know the 1.3L had effectively the 1.6 box final drive wise but is there an additional hole for a sensor or something on the 1.3?

Hi fin, yes you can interchange them, to fit a 1300 box to a 1.6 you need to swap one of the studs if i recall, (maybe that's a when it's a diesel box now I think of it) the bellhousing bolt pattern is identical on all of them as they all use the same transmission casing, the only differences being in the actual mounting hardware (studs nuts and bolts etc), this is because of the adaptor plate, you certainly don't need to drill any holes or anything daft like that, I'm trying for the life of me to remember which stud you have to change for a nut and bolt but I'm failing here.

the sensor hole for the flywheel crank sensor and threaded hole for the retaining bolt is there too but on the 1.6 and diesel models it has a plastic bung shoved in the hole instead which you can just lever out with a screwdriver.

the driveshafts are compatible with all of the gearbox types petrol and diesel all use the same driveshafts..

Yu will need to swap the rear lower gearbox mounting over though, easy job it's just held on with 3 nuts, because of the thickness of the adaptor plate he rear lower mounting has a different offset in the steel bracket.

I swapped my 1.6 box for a 1.3 box on my 1.6 AFH, from memory i think its just one stud that needs swapping over, it will be obvious when you come to swap them over anyway.
