Clutch advice

Featured Replies

I am looking at a couple of clutchs as I think i'll need one soon for when I go for bigger power whilst keeping the DMF.

I am looking to acheive around 350-360ft/lbs torque and somewhere around 220hp.

I want to get a stronger clutch enough to cope with the above power figures without spending mass ammounts so am looking at a sachs kevlar clutch kit on ebay with DMF. The ebay listing says this clutch is rated upto 480nm which works out at 354ft/lbs. Would this be adequate for what I need without changing to SMF? The deal is sweet with 20% off for the next 4 hours still..

Other than that I was also looking at C&G Motorsport's Dual friction clutch and DMF. This is considerably more than the ebay sachs kevlar clutch kit but not too much that i'm not willing to buy if it's worth the extra.

Heres the link to the C&G Dual friction clutch:

Any help/advice on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Scrap the sachs carbon kevlar clutch kit from techniclutch. Just read the awful reviews about them..

Still, any good reviews on the C&G dual friction clutch & DMF running around 350 ft/lbs torque and 220ish bhp?

Sorry, couldn't edit first post.

Ah so techinclutch are trying to fob off there clutch plates as being sachs now

Avoid those monkeys at all costs

CG are a relatively new company that i have no personal experience of. Reviews i've read seem to be divided.

If it was me id go 2 options depending on what you want

Standard flywheel and sachs organic race engineering clutch

Or

Helix single mass flywheel and organic clutch

Both will cost £900-1000 in parts but are tried and tested and are a quality product

I got a cg paddle clutch on a dmf. It's brilliant and holds power well

stay away from the single mass at all costs. makes a horrific noise and no need for it at that power!

I've got a cg motorsport dual friction and smf. Can't fault it.

I would tend to disagree.

I would chose a SMF at hybrid power. Its entirely personal preference though.

SMF - future proof and lighter so more performance gain.

I agree with Jase, whilst the SMF is noisier than the DMF it's not like you're ruining the silky, smooth PD experience...

Coming from having both setup's

Helix and smf

And

Sachs and dmf

The helix and smf wins hands down, just seems to have oodles more bite (which i like) also has a stiffer pedal which i also prefer.

The helix and smf would pull from low down in 6th gear at about 40mph like nothing else.

The sachs and dmf i had only covered 20k miles until the dual mass flywheel died. Clutch itself was fine but the flywheel was dead, so i uprated to the helix setup

Thats my experience and preference.

Id suggest

Sachs and dmf for remapped cars that need a new clutch

Helix and smf for cars running bigger turbos

Thanks for the advice and comments.

I would love to go for the SMF for the pure fact the power it holds and will not die whilst I own the car, just the chatter puts me off.

I only do around 4k per year so I think i'll go with the DMF as it should last for what I need. Think i'll just bite the bullet and go with the sachs organic and DMF setup in the near future.

Although i'll have a DMF would it be worth going for the sintered disc rather than the organic disc for the extra durability? Just thinking if the DMF went first, the clutch would still be strong enough to just replace the DMF with another.

I haven't run the sintered disc but id imagine it would be very on off.

My sachs organic i sold it onto a forum member who then used it in his car for a good few years after my dmf failure.

The sachs organic clutch plate itself has a decent lifespan.
