DRIVING IN FRANCE: SATNAVS, SPEED CAMERAS AND BREATHTESTS ETC

Featured Replies

I dont have a GB logo on my plate and kept forgetting to put the magnet on all the way to Germany & back :D No one noticed, I tend to leave my lights on all the time tbh but I would expect if lights are needed then DRLs wouldnt count.

For the last two summers, our family holidays have been in France at a campsite near Disney land. Even when I know where I'm going I still use the sat nav for the speed limits due to them changing without actual speed limits signs but town and village signs. I did make sure my tom tom didn't have the speed trap database, due to not getting a clear yes or no if it was legal. As for speeding, I just made sure I didn't as the fine would mean less money for some fine beer.

I was working in Paris Last month and only had the GB on the number plate. If you're going into the centre of Paris you will need to apply for the emissions sticker which costs about £4.

Thank you, all, for your input. I think I'm ready. I did drive a hire car out of and back into Paris once. That experience means I would never drive my own car, especially a new one, in Paris. Nightmare. Okay, I suppose, if you know where you're going. But, if you have to look at road signs as well... I quickly learned that you must never make eye contact with another driver. They know you're an out of towner. No wonder their symbol is le coq. Driving in Paris is a total game of "chicken". Le Peripherique is almost as bad. I'm going nowhere near on this trip.
