What do I need. breather hoses under inlet manifold

Looking at doing this myself as a preventative measure more than anything, been reading up on VW Vortex and UKMKIVs. There are three hoses that make up the PCV breather system, been looking at Creationmotorsport for them as a lot cheaper than forge/samco and get good reviews.

One of the pipes connects to a plastic elbow shaped oil pipe which is apparently highly likely to disintegrate as soon as you go near it, so worth getting one of those from VW in case. Also the dipstick holder is also in the way and is apparently liable to snap, so may be worth getting one of them too.

It depends what engine code u have as to what pipes you need for example I have a mk4 golf gti 150 bhp agu code it only has 3 small pipes my Octavia 1.8t 4x4 150 bhp arx code has the full set like the vrs if oil is leaking under the manifold and you have done the dipstick holder it will be the s shaped hose under the manifold only £15 on ebay from volks bits shop its worth doing the full set though as its hard to access under the inlet on the the vrs set up as u have to remove the black plate with the n249 and parts and pipes to get access its very tight it can be done it just takes time .

I got a vrs 180bhp. There's 2 pipes coming from out the bottom of the manifold. Ill see if I can take a photo. One bit I suspect is leaking n not sure what it is. One of the pipes attached to something and it looks really dirty. It was near the engine.

Am I right in thinking I can do away with that green bit and just run a pipe from the pipe on the left it attaches to and run it to a catch can? If so what catch can unit is everyone using? Its pretty urgent as I need to sort it before my mot is up.

Ok thanks. The problem im having is iv found 3 guides on how to do it but none of them state what size pipes I need to use. There are bits where im getting confused. Do i need to run a pipe from the bit with the green thing sticking out to a catch can then bung off the 2 bits on the inlet manifold. Then remove the Y pipe and send a pipe from the side of the manifold to the I think im right in saying tip?

The black s shape pipe is the common fault if you inspect it there is probably splits in it this will effect the way the car runs , you can buy a silicone  replacement on ebay just search (auq silicone hoses)

Sorry bit of a short post back there, had to dash as I went to type it.

I would remove that pipe from the hard plastic elbow thats in the block and runs back to the rocker cover, replace that valve as thats the PCV valve which controls the whole system.

 

Mine looked like this

The hard pipe in the block will probably break so be prepared, I'm not up on all the blanking and re-routing stuff but I'm sure someone can hep you out with that. 

All those pipes are for is ventilation so a clean up will work wonders, that vale is probably stuck open and causing oil to blow out were it shouldn't.

The valve and rubber T piece section costs about £20 IIRC and the hard elbow can be had on Ebay for a tenner as opposed to £30 in the dealers.

The S pipe is connected to the front of the valve and does get brittle, like said before either an OE one or silicone, the OE one will last years but the silicone one will last longer, up to you really.

This is what i suspect is leaking, Theres alot of crap on the pipe and looked like wet oil too. Anyone tell me what it is?

Yeah that is the PCV system.

If you are replacing like for like (std set up) then yes you need to get the replacement form main dealer.

Here is the parts you need

Also I have highlighted what parts you can remove if you are doing a breather/PCV simplification and or a OCC install.

They do show where you need to remove that green part and join up new OCC silicon hose to the remaining 90' plastic tube to engine block (item 2 in the drawing)

Ok thanks. The problem im having is iv found 3 guides on how to do it but none of them state what size pipes I need to use. There are bits where im getting confused. Do i need to run a pipe from the bit with the green thing sticking out to a catch can then bung off the 2 bits on the inlet manifold. Then remove the Y pipe and send a pipe from the side of the manifold to the I think im right in saying tip?

If fitting std stuff then you don't need to worry about sizes as just quote dealer P/N's

If you are going for the full monty of simplification and OCC (and I would), the pipes for the OCC are 19mm internal diameter that match the std breather fittings. They should be fluro lined if you are fitting a OCC

the pipes to cap off under manifold are approx 6mm silicon hoses with a bolt in or use or 6mm Blanks

Thanks for all that info mate. Yh im after simplifying the system and blanking off thebits. Where did you get the catch can from. Looks oem and doesn't stand out at all. That's what I like :)

Getting confused lol. Can u confirm this parts list and add if anythings missing.

Occ,

19mm silicon pipe internally coated to prevent oil contamination,

2x 6mm plugs

Hose clips,

What size pipe for the rest of the evap system?

And I need 1x 10mm alloy bung for the tip.

Are you positive its 6mm for the bungs to go over the 2 nipple underneath the manifold. Looks bigger to me thats all. Sorry for all the questions just want to be 100% sure im buying the right bits.
