Briski cyclists?!

Featured Replies

it could be far worse, there's those poor Columbian girls, who are all over the press/social media, at the moment

Brian Cookson (UCI President) is looking into it, with the thoughts of enforcing a kit change, as the Club will be a member of the Columbian Cycling Federation, & thus (highly likely) under the rules/regulations of the UCI

Clips on road are OK, clips off road = balls of steel!

Even if they get very clogged, they still tend to 'clippable' (in & out!)

I saw that, what were they thinking?!

After last Thursday nights encounter with a logging truck, I may to take up golf.... post-71909-14108182677728_thumb.jpgpost-71909-14108182906783_thumb.jpg

Not even had the bike a year, absolutely gutted. I was lucky that I wasn't under him with the rear wheel, and the ultra stiff dtm shoes I was wearing stopped my right foot from bring crushed. Just as I was getting d of form back after 2 months off earlier in the year too...

Thank goodness you're ok when seeing the state of the bike, what happened exactly?  Thankfully I haven't had any incidents with other vehicles despite spending a lot of time on the bike but it is an increasing worry particularly as some people just pay far too little attention when driving.

A lucky escape indeed

Don't, however, let it put you off - get back in the saddle (as they say to riders thrown by horses)

On the other side, please don't take it as evidence of a certain measure of immortality/immunity from danger (like so many youngsters seem to, if they survive any RTC - be it bike/motorcycle, or car)

One article claimed that the cycling outfit only looked that way in a certain light, normally it looked gold and didn't give the nude effect.

Been riding long enough to realise both, and not the first time I've been hit. Hopefully back on my ****ty winter bike on Saturday. I've got a few events lined up, not least lejog in September next year in 10 days or less I hope.

Well, it's that time of year again, when young (& old) mens thoughts turn to the hllls of North Yorkshire

http://3peakscyclocross.org.uk/

There's a very nice little feature in the 'Yorkshire Post' magazine about it this morning

However, what's interesting me is the sentence that stated that Tim Gould (still 'Matlock CC'??) is having a go at it again, now he can ride as a 'Vet 50'!!!

For the younger browsers amongst you, Gould won this race 5 consecutive times!!! ('84-'89), & was one of the first GB riders to really show the Americans how good we were at the then fledgling sport of MTB racing (having been World MTB 'Hill-Climb' champion, in 1990??)

Re; the 'Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross' mentioned above

Tim Gould placed a brilliant 13th overall, in his first ride there for 10 years!!!, as he's now a 'Vet 50'
His last ride saw him take 2nd, to the 11 times winner Rob Jebb (that's including this years win!)

Matt;
Regarding the 'Man v Bike' race, up at Denby Dale, that I mentioned previously, this years date is out......
Come & join us, it's a fairly open event, as 'we' (my club) run it, Wakefield Triathlon Club run, or ride, etc....

http://denbydaletravellers.org.uk/ESW/Files/DENBY_DALE_TRAVELLERS_RUNNER_V_BIKE_2014.pdf

As it says on the PDF above;

'It is not intended for this event to be a race'
Oh yeah!!!!!! - they say that about 'Beat Badger' too!! ('race the train', at the Kirklees Light Railway)
Not suitable for road-bikes, really for CX, or MTB

I have a friend who lives near Ripponden in Yorkshire and the hills are incredible, I don't know how they managed to produce such steep roads.  There's some steep tracks around here but nothing like that road wise, need to take the bike with me next time for some training ;)

John

Show him this one.................

We had been trying to plan a ride of it (that is, a few members of my running club - some are also triathletes), but it was getting a weekend when everyone was free

Got a 2011 Boardman hybrid and a 2014 Ribble R872.

I do like the Ribbles, I'm considering replacing my Ridley with the HF 83, possibly with Dura-Ace (mechanical)

(if SWMBO lets me.......)

Damned shame (re; annual-leave)

I'll be running it, I can't get annual-leave either, but will swap days-off with a collegue, or shift-swap (from my day, to an afternoon, & go in at 14:00)

The Raleigh looks damned good, almost a challenge to the (well-respected) IslaBikes

Look at the Luath (better resale value than the Raleigh)

O/S SE 120385 (sheet 104; Leeds & Bradford)

It's 'entries on the line' only

£7.00 for cyclists; (British Cycling levy)

At the bottom of the Clubs 'race-page', there's a video for you all to watch, to see how (& indeed, where) it goes

I'm hoping to take a Club 'away-team', from amongst our fell-runners & XC-ers

Exactly the same route for runners & riders, unlike that Denby Dale Travellers ('Man v Bike') event', this race has certain sections that favour either group, but it evens out overall!!!

Is this event of any interest to you???

Saturday 15th November @ 14:00

Richard,

I'm currently not entering any events, since I did the Holme Valley MTB challenge I've been struggling with my knee & now in physio so getting back into cycling gently, I'll be at the NEC on that day @ the Classic Motorcycle Show with my son and brother (at least its still 2wheels?) :)

I am doing my first triathlon in March so i sold my mountain bike and bought a Hybrid bike. I bought a Specialized Sirrus sport which i will pick up sometime this wee.

Anyone here into gravity enduro?

  • 4 weeks later...

Quick update, The PlanetX Dirty Disco has been returned due to not being fit for purpose & the customer service not being able to solve the problem's in a respectable time frame.

So I've now got a 2015 Cube Cross Race Disc :) , I would have liked the Pro for the Ultegra groupset & hydraulic brakes but the 105 setup & cable brakes is fine for my needs (I may buy the Pro later next year when some start arriving into the UK).

The 11speed 105 is lovely and smooth and worked well when covered in muck.

Had a fantastic commute to work this morning, 5am / bridleways all to myself & a 17mile commute with 3miles of that on the road :) :) , looking forward to finishing work tonight the ride home

Fresh few mornings to cycle to work these past few days.

Supposed to be bad here (Lancashire) next week, forecast sleet apparently, think I'll let the push bike have a rest if that is the case!

JRJG

I love the little dirt doesn't hurt on the frame, I've got a similar emblem on my FS bike.  Nice looking bike as well, I bought a road bike a couple of years which I'm regretting now as a CX bike would have been a better buy but at the time the prices were a bit silly for them.

Maybe we need briskoda stem caps! ;)

There is this company: http://www.kapz.co.uk/kapz---custom-engraved-headset-caps-14-c.asp

I've seen caps by them they do look amazing

I'm able to do laser engraving, if I can order in stuff that's already anodised.

Though it won't be quite on par with some of their stuff that they've engraved and then coloured...
