Alarm Problems

Featured Replies

Good morning,

In the small hours of Sunday morning my alarm went off. I thought I might have left the windows open, and in my sleepy state I just unlocked, and then relocked the car, leaving my finger on the button to make sure the windows were closed.

this only happened once, so back to sleep.

Last night, the alarm went off at about 9.30, then about 11.30 and then 12.30. (or so). the only way I could think of to stop it from going off was to unlock the car and then go and open the door, so it would not re-lock.

The strange thing is the amount of time it took for the alarm to go off again. It wasn't exactly an hour each time, but if there is a fauly, surely it would have gone off more.

Haas anybody experienced this??

Can anybody tell me how to completely switch off the alarm as I don't think I can get to the dealers for a while (as I am taking the wifes car in for a service tomorrow.)

thanks in advance.

Try pressing the button on the drivers B pillar, that'll switch off the ultrasonic sensors, but that's all to can actually switch off.

Thanks.

I think that will only work once, so I would have to do that each time.

Thanks.

This is correct, but if the alarm doesn't go off then you know the problem.  There will be no way to disable the alarm, even if there was this would also disable your insurance policy.

the strange thing is, it has been locked all morning and nothing so far.

I hope I don't have one of those creepy issues where the alarm only goes off at night for no reason.

I had this on my mkI fabia vRS, was the ultra sonic sensors playing up with large temperature changes from day to night, dealer turned the sensitivity down and it was fine afterwards.

Interesting, as it was the hottest day of the year yesterday.

will see what happens tonight.

Fly in the car perhaps?… had a few alarms go off over the years as a result of having shut one of these little buggers in the car in hot weather.

I am at the dealership at the moment (for my Citigo service) and they had never heard of that.

Didn't happen last night, so will see if it does re-occur.

My wife laughed last night as I took my keys to bed with me just incase......

ONE DEAD MOTH......

Out of your wallet or wife's purse? Lol.

Sorry couldn't resist. Glad you have found the culprit!

Insects are often the culprit… the first sign is that the alarm sounding is erratic which is because temperature and humidity can make a difference as to how often and whether the sensors pick them up.

Mine has gone off randomly once since ive had it, hasnt happened since. Nearly every VAG car ive had over the past few years (had several) has done this occasionally. If it happens regularly and often then theres probably something amiss. Keep an eye on it id suggest.

Motion sensors were faulty in mk2...maybe same issue on mk3
