Skoda Fabia 2.0 Petrol catalytic converter blocked BAD CAT

Featured Replies

HI

I own a 2.0 Skoda fabia (engine code AZL) which was driving great. Over the last few months it's been getting sluggish and won't rev past 4000rpm and struggles to get going..

Found out the CAT is block, detached it from the manifold and went for a spin was good. put back on and removed the mid and back box was sluggish again and the CAT whistles when at 4000 rpm

Where can i get a CAT which is not going to cost me £701 (dealer), I have tried euro parts, GSF loads all saying dealer only.

is there an alternative like a MK4 golf i know their share the same parts but i can't be sure. i check VAGCAT and there share a simular manifold.

Or even a place that sells performance branch that would be cheaper.

Cheers

Background to solving the problem:

Had error code 16795

16795/P0411/001041 - Secondary Air Injection System: Incorrect Flow Detected

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16795/P0411/001041

Which i have fixed all possible causes relay's, air pump, and valve.

I How get 16804 Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold.

I wouldn't exactly recommend this, but it seems like you don't have much to lose if it doesn't work; a spot of weld over the hole you've drilled, or tap it and put a screw there for easy future 'treatments'.

Good to see someone else on here with a Fabia 2.0! Hope you can get your cat problem sorted.

The AZL was shared with the Seat Ibiza and Cordoba, so they might be worth a look to see if any exhaust parts are the same. Also, have you tried any breaker search sites like http://www.247spares.co.uk?

You could cut the cat open at the top, remove the internals and weld it back up. I dont know anyone who has done that to their 1.4 fabia, honest

I will give that a try as you said doesn't hurt if it's blocked, but it could be collapsed

I think the 2.0 petrol is a wicked car I don't warrant a diesel. plus gentle driving i get 47mpg has been my max.

You are corrent the Ibiza and cordoba have the exact same part numbers and no one stocks them dealer only again I was hoping a MK4 golf four branch fits.

I have emailed 247 spares and waiting for a reply.

cheers

has been mention to smash it out. and then look for one before next MOT

Get a friendly welder to replace it with a universal cat. Done.

Any good exhaust fitting place that can weld should be able to do that for you.

The beauty of cutting it open top side is it still looks complete to an mot tester. Just hope it passes emmissions test on the day, could pop an additive and make sure its warm before you get the mot done. If they offer a free retest in the event of a fail, usualy if returned within 10 days you could get one then. The seat ibiza 6L also had the AZL engine and BBZ, share the same cat. Or if you can get a golf one and weld that in

Good call.

The CAT and the down pipe come as one, I be good to have something like a four branch then have the a bolt in CAT so i would have to worry about the down pipe going then having to weld it back in again.

I looking over the interent for a seperate down pipe and cat like the ibiza the CAT is bolt in.

The fabia share the same exhaust manifold as the GOLF 06A253031BC but the down pipe is differnet and connects in a different place.

It seems like the 2.0 petrol doesn't even exist everything is VRS.

You're missing the point.

The 2.0L petrol is in fact, the base level Golf GTI mk4 engine for the most part.

So... You might be able to find stuff from that...

It's not the engine that's the problem, it's the fact that a Fabia is a Polo, not a Golf and exhaust system components are floorpan derivative orientated due to dimensional constraints. I would go with the suggestion of getting a replacement universal cat welded in so that your post cat lambda probe doesn't have to be deleted, there must be loads of places in the Midlands that do custom exhaust work cheaply.

You beat me too it.

Yeah the fabia is a Polo 9n and even shares parts with the Polo 6N as well, it's also part ibiza and audi a2. and although the manifold may fit the engine it may be too short as the Fabia stands taller than a golf.

I can't be the only one that had a blocked CAT on a 2.0 and i'm trying to find if someone on the interent that has found a solution or has everyone just paid the dealer prices or all 2.0 running round without CAT's

I going to do some of the suggestion cleaning then deleting.

.

Then there is a gap in the market for 2.0l fabia. I get the down pipe copied from exhaust place then get a bolt connection added for the Cordoba CAT.

Just a shame that there not may performance parts for the 2.0. it a good engine i know the Golf crowd go on about the 1.8T but there is a someone that come along and point out that this engine is pretty bullet proof.

we had a 2.0 golf with 198000 miles on the clock on the engine was mint change the water pump and cambelt. even the body was good with full leather  heated seats the works would of had it too if i didn't have too if i did have 3 cars.

Not Many left only 42 maybe people scrap them due to the blocked CAT (42 * £701 = £29422) win for the dealer.

Fix(ish) I cut the top off the CAT and broke it out, then and welded it back on.

I will be taking too a friend who makes exhausts. The down pipe is pretty short and most of it flexhose.

So it will be a short down pipe with bolted connection with a in and out CAT pipe

Well done, however that link you posted was for a diesel cat which isn't suitable for your car.

I currently have a warranty claim with GSF for a front cat pipe that I bought for a Golf 2.0 GTI, after 3 Months it failed an MOT with - 16804 Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold - On looking down the pipe it looked like the honeycomb had part disintegrated.
