I know it's summer ,but winter wheels

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Got the chance of some steel wheels and tyres.

7J x ET 45 with 205/55 x 16 tyres bought new for a Suberb 2013 Greenline.

Looked through forums and still little bit confused, think this size should fit or the bigger tyre size 215/60 x 16 also.

Little bit confused.

Any help appreciated.

I think the 215/60 size is closest in rolling circumference to your normal tyres, but I think I read 205/55 can be used as well, might be in the manual ?

Edit: You'd need to check the load/speed rating are correct for the Yeti too.

What make/model of tyres are they ?

They will be spot on (many use 205/55/16” for winter tyres on their Yeti’s) the Superb also uses a high load (92/93 IIRC) XL tyre

If you can live with steel wheels then they are ideal

Tyres are Michelin Primacy Alpins. Not sure of speed rating, will have to check.

A set of alloys would be nicer, agree, probably fit some trims to help with looks for the few months they will be on. Is the ET 45 the offset of the wheel and would the stud hole spacing be correct?

Yes the Yeti uses 5x112, 7"x17" ET45 wheels as std

Size wise they are perfect

Thanks, reading forums advisable to ask/ inform insurance company as well?

It doesn’t hurt to inform them, just make sure they do not chant to charge you as its a ‘modification’ .... its NOT

The tyres aren't a modification, but surely changing wheel size is ?

Its a Škoda recommended size though.... as indicated inside the fuel flap.

Just tell them you are fitting genuine VAG wheels and winter tyres in the correct size recommended by Škoda,

insurance companies are normally only interested in improvements in looks / performance (so putting larger alloys on for example)

Just seen pics of tyres , 205/55R 16. 91 H.

Not sure if these are suitable?

205x55 16's are a recommended size for Yeti. But.....they look very small when fitted, ( and have been quoted as looking like a roller skate) and a lot of members on here have went for 215x60 16's which to me look a lot better.

I did have a look and still not sure. I thought that the Yeti 4x4 needed at least a 93 rating. On mine at the moment are Pirelli 94W.

Thanks, notice you've got the 215/60 as well. Do you know what load rating and speed rating yours are?

Yeah 215x60 16 99H XL Nokian WR D3 purchased with steel wheel package from Mytres.co.uk. Originally I fitted the VW caddy wheel centre caps with Skoda badges fitted,as per Johanns mod, but las year bought a set of Skoda Riff wheel trims cheaply from eBay.

Mine are also from Mytyres bought as a set, Avon Ice Touring ST 215/60 R16 99H XL. on steel wheels. These are the closest in size to the 225/50 R17 94W  you will hardly notice any difference when they are on, I just put some Halfords wheel trims on, as it's only for winter driving, they also give a slightly softer ride, due to increased tyre wall. If you search winter wheels/tyres there's tons of stuff on here.

The UKSpecialBuildClub's 16" Moons were OEM fitted with 215x60.  My Conti2's are 95H - I don't know if the 4x4 Specials on other make rubber are the same rating.

After speaking to my insurers, they were concerned that the load rating was lower than 93 for my 170 4x4 Yeti which if I read correctly was what was mentioned in a guide on here.

Unfortunately, had to say no to purchase. My loss, someone else's gain.
