Fuel consumption 2nd tank refill vrs2l tsi

Featured Replies

Second tank fill since new, done 326 miles, filled tank back up to 50litre, which worked out at 29.66 mpg up since my first tank fill which was 26.9 mpg. I did do about 40 miles of motorway driving but other than that all town.

Early days yet ,it will improve when the engine has bedded in.

Enjoy the motor.

"Filled tank back up to 50 litre" - how did you manage to measure that?  Check your consumption over at least 1000 miles or 4 or more refills then the calculated figures will mean something.

Quoting mpg to two decimal places on one refill of the tank implies a far better accuracy (within 0.03%) than I would expect on a calculation over the more than 13,000 miles I have kept records for my car (44mpg).

First 200 miles of mixed driving I got 28.5mpg (calculated, car indicated about 29.2)._ next400 miles of motorway drive on v power nitro i got 35.8 calculated ( car indicated 36.1)

That's as good or better than my old 2l Mondeo and it should improve hopefully.

Philbes yes 50 litres back into the tank, my first refill I put 51 litres in the tank, it's a puzzle to me as manual says tank only holds 50 litres max.

what range was showing on the computer before you filled up?

I have only broken through the 30mpg once in 12 refills. Average since new is 26.8mpg over 3K miles of mostly in-town driving.

>40mpg is possible on open motorways with a light right foot, but I do not use this combo often.

Nearly done 600 miles in mine now...mostly town driving.....computer is showing "lifetime mpg" as 29.3, filled up a couple of times using only super unleaded......am hoping that figure edges up a bit in the coming months.

Got rid of my Mondeo 2.0 Zetec for the Octy.....the Mondeo showed an average of 29.1mpg....but I know which car is loads more fun to drive!!

I'm at 1075 miles now. The mpg for the 3rd tank full of vpower  was 32.61 calculated (32.5 indicated) over a distance of 309 miles. Some 240 ish in the motorway with roof bars and a triple extension 9 rung ladder on top, rest was in town and another 30 odd miles with the roof Bars fitted, some with 6 sheets of 8ft x 4 ft ply or plaster board on top, car heavily loaded for most of the miles.

Just driven 200 miles of A51, M6,M1 and through London  to crystal palace (at least averaging near 30 mph in town is possible at 0200). As the car is run in now and the motorways clear at that time of a Monday morning I didn't go slow, average speed was 58 mph door to door. Car is indicating 35.2 mpg.

Guys, just to keep you in perspective. My 12 year old Corolla has 27 mpg. It's a 1,6 VVT petrol engine with 110 hp.

Looking forward to achieving above 30 mpg with my octy.

Yeah lol! Things have moved on since that corolla.  I'm not bothered by the mpg of the octy, I didn't buy the tsi to save money, although I hope it will be marginally better then the old ford it replaced. So far I'd say it's a few mpg better in London busy traffic (maybe 5 ish), and ever so slightly better at speed on the motorway ( ~2). Take the extra cost of the higher Ron juice into account and it's about the same or slightly better. So I'm content. It'll be nice if it improves as the engine loosens though.

Latest fill up done, mileage on top of last weeks motorway run was a local (Croydon) run and then across London to staples corner at 6pm last night.  Total 35.3mpg

Just filled my car up, 3rd refill since new done nearly 1000 miles since purchased. Driven on economy mode this tank fill, done 334 miles, filled tank up to 50 litre so works out at 30.36 mpg, also done around 70 miles of motorway driving during that tank fill.

Give or take 3 days... that's one fill-up a month?

If only  :envy: .

loveman,

can you not Brim your tank, and do the miles and then see how many litres required to Brim again.

Then repeat.

50 Litre capacity is the Tank,

but not up the pipe or how much fuel you can have onboard.

Fill up 5 done. 395 miles of mainly motorway and achieved 36.48 mpg on shell v power nitro (calculated).  Indicated was a bit off for the first time, 38.1.... Left me disappointed when I cam calculated the real figure.

Just put a post on this thread about capacity. 51.86 litres is my best fill-up!

Have kept a fuel log on all my vRS's from day 1 over last 4 years

Mk2 FL vRS hatch. 4363 litres, 33996 miles. Average consumption 35.41mpg

Mk2 FL vRS estate. 2102 litres. 15539 miles. Average consumption 33.46 mpg

Mk3 vRS. So far...1366 litres. 11264 miles. Average consumption 37.47 mpg

Filled up today, 290 miles done on Esso's 97 Ron juice, 60 or 70 of that was lots of short runs to the dump and or b and q ( putting in a new bathroom at the fiancées.....saw my first other vrs at b and q Chester too, race blue estate, 63 plate) only got 33.7 mpg  calculated ( 34.6 indicated) but OK given the number of short and laden runs.  Back on shell vpower I've just done the Chester to south London run and maxidot is showing the best figure yet for that run, despite heavy central London traffic all the way from staples corner (40.6 mpg).   I wonder now if esso juice isn't so good, but one tank is not enough to know.

4th refill, economy mode 317 miles from 48lite of petrol =30mpg

Mine is on 16k miles now, going in for a service on Monday.

Record on my 2.0TSI VRS with DSG is 50.3,...that was a trip from Bournemouth to Brum and back.

Cool eh? This car just gets better by the mile!!

I have almost 6000Km (3728 in old money) and i regularly get 34-36 mpg on rual roads. I was in France a few weeks ago and on the m-way the computer was saying I was getting almost 41mpg at a steady 130KmPh which is about 80mph. For a petrol estate it is pretty good I think.

Now and again I take it for a good old fashioned Italian tune-up :)

Another couple of fill ups done. Fill up 7, I covered 270 miles, some 85 of those were numerous short ish town journeys so I expected the mpg to be down a bit but got 35.8 mpg. Then  for fill up 8 I covered 398 mainly motorway miles and achieved 39.4 mpg, my best yet by a margin. I suspect it was mainly due to driving style/ motorway cruising speed but maybe the engine is starting to loosen up. 2.4k miles done now.  Still using shell v power nitro.

Long term average is now a whisker over 35 mpg.

Another fill up, done 295.8 miles. 10.23 gallon used = 28.92 mpg. 46.5 litres used since last fill up, driven some on sport mode then economy mode. Done 1600 miles since new form April 2014. Mostly town driving.

I've done another 3 fill ups now. 3 ago I had to put 95 Ron in as no super was a available and I was about to do a long motorway run. The car got 30 litres a added to the nearly 20l of super still in the tank. Car averaged 37 mpg over the next 200 miles. It then got topped up with another 25 litres of shell v-power nitro and over the next 400 miles of motorway/a road it averaged 37.4 (calculated). Not possible to be sure from a single 95 Ron fill like that, and tbh the subsequent journeys were possibly slightly faster cruising speeds overall, but I reckon the lower octane may well have hit mpg by 1 to 1.5 mpg, even at the mixed concentrations. Now I'm back on pure 97 Ron I hope the car will average over 40 mpg on its next tank (depending on journey types). Would be nice to break through the 40 mpg mark.

3700 miles done now.

My stats after 5K miles within a manual TSI. Mostly busy town driving with a couple of longer kids trips during the summer.

Here is the raw data. Note that Super-unleaded fuel (red lines) makes no difference whatsover for me.
