(NZ) What will the dealer offer me when I pick up my new Octavia?

Featured Replies

Might be a question more for the NZ forum members, but all help appreciated!

I'm picking up my Octavia vRS wagon from a dealer in Auckland in September; it'll be my first brand new car. I'd like to go into the dealer with some forewarning on things they might try to "up-sell" me on.  I've seen UK members talk about paint protection and extended warranty - are these applicable in NZ? Is there anything else they will try to use to pry more money from my wallet?

Cheers

All that crap would have been "offered" when you went to sign the contract. If that's already done, and it's just delivery, they normally dont offer anything. Maybe a bottle of champers, and the car in a bow if they are a smaller dealership.

I got offered the paint protection when signing the contract. Nothing else that I remember.

Good luck, you'll love the car!

Same here as far as options at pick up time, not really. I had to wait 6 months for mine because I wanted a manual diesel and the car went up in price in the middle but of course it didn't for me.

All that other stuff is usually done at the start as you can get it thrown in for free when you negotiate the price.

They now have an extended warrenty which I didn't get offered but you can do that on sign up if you like. Also the service plan etc but on 2 year/30k servicing intevals you probably only get it serviced once or twice in the warrenty period so I didn't bother with that either.(although i'm 9000kms after 13 weeks so gulp!).

A mate got his last week and he got offered the 19inch wheels for cheap as they have spare ones and no one wants them etc and he upgraded to the after market sub/amp package as car didn't have Canton for same price which is pretty good upgrade. Hopefully you optioned front tints out of them for nothing as it looks a bit half done without them otherwise. Even so it's only $90 to get them anyway which we all have so......

If you're very lucky they might offer you a coffee?

Seriously though - as already stated, the main thing the NZ dealers seem to offer is the paint protection deal when you do the original deal - and if you take that you will get the carwash products and a cooler bag branded with the dealers details when you pick up the car.  That has been my experience with both the Hamilton and Tauranga Skoda dealers. Haven't had any experience with Giltraps though.

Excellent, thanks guys. As I've only put down the deposit to date I thought the hard sell might come later on.I think I had the most laid back sales person ever - he didn't try any upselling at all and gave me a great discount right up front that I couldn't get any other dealer I asked to come close to.

@bigreddognz I like your car choice - you seem to have exactly what I've ordered Black/black pack TSI Manual RS wagon! What wheels did you get? I've seen pictures of it with the Anthracite Gemini's (which is what I've ordered), but I'd like to see one with the 19" xtremes.

Cheers

Ordered Black with Black pack, with the Anthracite Gemini's, panorama roof, canton and tow bar prep - although haven't got the towbar yet.  There is also another almost identical wagon here in Tauranga/Mt Maunganui but a diesel.

Didn't want to go to the 19's, although i've seen pics on this forum with this - but i do to many km's to justify paying for 19" tyres - that and the roads aren't all motorways like you have :-)

When did you order and how long is the delivery due to be?  I ordered middle of Nov last year, it apparently left Germany early Jan and i received mid March.

I ordered early April, it was built last week of June and was supposed to be ready for pick up on 30th of August. Sadly it "missed the boat" so delivery will be September.  It was built much quicker than I expected, but getting it here has been the problem!

A bit jealous of the Panoramic Roof. When I was ordering all I had in mind was cr@ppy old school sunroofs, but now I've seen a couple in the flesh they look great.  Oh well, next time :)

So they're getting you a manual?  Skoda NZ missed a sale from me when they wouldn't bring in a manual superb.  They kept offering me DSG or Yeti.  Unfortunately they'd stopped production of Octavia 2 4wd at that stage, I could have special ordered a manual 2wd.

Are you going to share the spec of your new car?

Sorry, the specs are spread across posts above, but here they are all in one place!

Octavia RS wagon TSI manual - batman/hearse spec :) , i.e. Black with black pack and Anthracite Geminis.

Added Canton 10 speaker, and park assist. Also tried to get intelligent light assist but it wasn't available :(

Like others have said, the 'sell' is before, not after, collecting the car should be just that.

Make sure you check all round it carefully before driving away...
