It seems that 'less than £30k' is now considered 'affordable' by car manufacturers; as well as this Skoda the new Ford Focus RS, amongst others, is aiming to be below this price point. Maybe I'm a tight git but whilst I can afford £30k for a car there is absolutely no way I would spend £30k on a car!

Fiesta ST fits the bill nicely; Skoda (I believe) are missing the boat by not doing a Mk 3 vRS.

Interestingly, my local Ford dealer has 3 one year old Fiesta STs on their forecourt at prices above what I can buy new using military discount; there is clearly a solid demand for such cars.

lol... I cant afford it !.... not unless something changes... £15 all all I can spend, I will almost certainly be keeping my vRS!

Amazing looking motor. Would definitely get one if I could afford... :-)

im with you guys, they seem to just keep putting the price up which just means we lose more and more come trade in time, a 30k car will be lucky to be worth 15k in 3 years time and thats a HELL of a lot of cash to lose

im thinking there just wanting us to use pcp more, great if you keep swapping the car every few years but naff once you come to the end and have nothing to show for it all

i only wish my wages would rise as quickly as car prices

Well car production, even in the Czech Republic and the UK, the main parts are priced in Euros and only the local labour in local currency so when the world entered the current recession and the pound dropped from buying 1.6 Euros to only buying 1.2 Euros all European cars went up by about a third with a year or so.

Also VAT being raised from 15% to 20% has had quite an effect.

Hence PCP deals, which avoids the VAT component are much better deals than they use to be.

Korean and Japanese currencies have also been strong against GBP with mainly only the USD being weak against sterling of the major currencies.

I thought thay Sterling has been very strong recently, no?

Certainly against the Euro - I've got a not insignificant investment in shares in Euros and it has taken the double whammy of the share price falling and the € weakening against Sterling.
