VRS first service - my experience

Featured Replies

My VRS is back from its first service today so, seeing as I have some spare time on my hands, I thought I'd share my experience.

My infotainment system, it turns out, had been set up incorrectly; I'm on the free three year servicing plan but the system was telling me my first oil change / service wasn't due for another 480+ days.  Members informed me, in another thread here, to ignore the system and book the service at 10,000 miles.

So anyway, I book my service via Skoda's online booking facility.  All went smoothly, I received an automated email within minutes of completing the booking and I received a call back the next day from the dealer (Blade Skoda in Flax Bourton).  I also received a reminder email the day before my service.

The 10,000 mile service isn't actually a service; it's an oil and filter change and the dealer told me if I got the vehicle there for 8.30 I could wait and they'd have it back to me by 9.45 (which includes a vacuum and wash).

I turned up at 8.20 and was greeted promptly by a guy on the service desk; upon asking me my name he produced the relevant paperwork and after two signatures he directed me to the waiting area where I had the use of a free coffee machine and wi-fi access.

Sure enough, at 9.50 he came over, talked me through the paperwork and with a cheerful smile he returned my keys to me and directed me to my car.

So overall a very positive experience.  The wash of the car was nothing special but it was gratis so no complaints.  My vehicle health check shows front tyres at 5mm and rears at 3mm (I had them rotated around a month ago).......any thoughts on the wear given my mileage, I suspect within 5k I'll be replacing all four tyres.

I had visions of running into difficulties with the free servicing plan (I have no actual paperwork that shows my entitlement) but no problems whatsoever.

Nice work Skoda, it's easy to complain when things go wrong and not enough of us are prepared to acknowledge good service.

BUT.......You let them wash your car!!!!!

My thoughts exactly! I will be putting an A3 piece of paper on my dash with "DO NOT WASH, VALET OR ANY SUCH FORM OF 'CLEANING'" :)

I had a similar experience with my mk2, only difference was I told them not to wash mine as I didn't know what their cleaning regime was, so didn't want to risk swirl city. The tdi vRS does tend to eat tyres as you've found out and if you have the contis on they're not the longest lasting tyre out there, but its the usual grip vs wear trade off I guess. If you search the mk2 section there will be threads on tyre options for the vRS there which might be useful.

I did that with mine, and had it written on the job sheet........... They still washed it....

I did that with my lovely dealer and they didn't wash it. They scratched instead......

If they washed, swirled or scratched my car after asking them not to then they'd be paying for a detailer to redo it from top to bottom :) I've been really anal with this (my first new car) and it still looks fantastic after having a ceramic coat on it and me washing it with a pre-foam and two bucket method.

I intend to keep it looking new as long as possible :)

Im grateful they wash mine....mine didnt get its first wash for 5 months! I like keeping my car clean but when you work alot, have two young kids and no family around helping out trust me its nigh on impossible to find the time.

Like you say, we are quick to point out problems but not so quick to post good experiences, glad yours was positive.

To climb on the praise wagon, Station Garage at Broadbridge Heath have been superb (no pun intended) throughout my short Skoda ownership, it's that sort of care that makes choosing another Skoda over other marques a bit easier.
