Oil Change Fabia 1.2

Featured Replies

Hi all, noob here so be gentle. I bought a Fabia in March, and thought it might be economical to learn a few bits about it. So far spent £70 on oil, filter, axel stands, Alan keys, oil filter pliers etc... So far having a real problem getting the sump plug off with Alan key and hammer. The plier don't seem much use either. Help please!

It probably needs a 19mm socket for the sump plug.

Mine was a hex key fitment! I got one on a socket and the best way of removing oil filter lid is an adjustable spanner! If it's a HTP engine that is though

The plug edge is round/circular...

As Toxicvrs has probably already said, you want a hex bit really rather than an L-shaped Allen key, those just tend to bend and twist.

Something like this will make the job easy:

The far end will have a square recess to fit a standard 3/8" or 1/2" drive.

I also got long Hex keys from Aldi along with Torx ones the best purchase in a while it will u do the fabia sump plug with ease! It's like a T shape

yes but it should have a large hexagon in the middle where you put a sump key or large allen key.

usually you can buy a set of sump keys from tool shops that you put in the hex and turn with a spanner.

also best bet to remove the oil filter is with a oil filter claw on a ratchet or failing that a large set of parrot grips :

I use adjustable spanner
