0-60 in 2.5 secs and Top Speed of 253mph

Featured Replies

Autocar says that the Bugatti Veyron has now been confirmed and have made public the above performance claims from the 987bhp 8.9 litre w16 engine. The top speed apparently was done in Germany on a two way run and will enter the Guinness Book of Records when it enters production. Autocar have been promised a drive in the car next month ... probably quite a scary first drive that one :D

ouch, just counted 2.5 on my watch  fast!!

that gets me to about 5mph!!

would be sweet to borrow that for a while :)

I thought it couldn't go round bends and is always pictured in a ditch or something similar.

Not the best car ever made :D

bit quick!!

I bet a Fabia vRS would still p i s s on it though :)

How did I know someone was going to say that !!! LOL

and if the vRS doesnt try i'll give it a run for its money in the 1.2 12volt!

Reading article on it... in 15 seconds its doing 175+ mph im still only reaching 60 there!!!!!!

Looks awsome though.. would love to see it in one colour (pref black)

2.5 is another 1/2 second quicker than that EVO at trax which did a 2.99! and THAT was blindingly quick by my reckoning!

Just realised - it was actually 0-62mph NOT 0-60 ... so even faster! Haven't got the magazine on me at the moment but it also had figures showing 0-187mph in about 17.5 seconds which was under half the time it took the Porsche Carrera GT to do it

Re: handling - Autocar did comment that the handling aspect did cause major problems initially and that is why it has taken so long to get it into a state ready for production (they have some piccies of one spinning at the Ring!). Apparently it is now sorted and the thing creates an huge amount of downforce now.

Just imagine how quick it would be with pikey mod 1 and 2 ;)

I'd have him in the twisties!

0-62 in 2.5 seconds ain't bad going seeing how dropping it nose-first off a building would only get it to about 55!

(I'll test my theory if they'll give me one to try!!!)

That means acceleration of about 1.13g just going in a straight line!!! Which is nearly 30% more than a R34 Skyline GT-R can do through the bends!!! :D

id still much prefer a tvr speed 12 much better looking and a hell of alot better

In sprinting they often have a second light beam set at 64foot. If you hit this after a certain time (forgot what it is) it means you're pulling 1g.

We had a guy at our recent sprint with a twin engined 4wd Tiger B6 (I tink) that had been built for a 0-60 record - it did it in something like 2.3 seconds.

64 feet would be 2 seconds. Strange, it doesn't sound all that far, but I bet I'd say otherwise if I were in something that could actually do it!!! :D

I'm just saving up to fit one of these in, in place of the standard PD lump! 108,920 bhp and 5,608,312 lb/ft  Not just the most powerful diesel engine in the world as it says in the article's title, but the most powerful engine full stop! And it's a two-stroke!!!

With one of these in, my Fabia vRS really will be the fastest car in the world ever. Bet it would even beat the Bugatti through the bends!!! :D:D:D

Might need to fiddle with the engine mountings, though... I'm sure Jason'll be able to give me few pointers there! ;)

Pity the poor b*gger who has to crank it to get it to start...

..come on petrol boys lets see a petrol engine with more mid-range power than this baby :)

108,920 bhp and 5,608,312 lb/ft

And that's at a mere 102rpm! :D

Dunno - Reckon it would use the existing mounts OK - Maybe need to chop a little bit of the bulkhead out? Not sure - can't really visualise the dimensions in the piccie? That is a lego-man standing there, no? ;)
