We have a Spaceback on the drive; it's green

Featured Replies

Have converted from a very nice but terribly uncomfortable Octy III SE to a green Spaceback SE.

Originally went looking at an ex demo Elegance TDI 105 in race blue but ended up with this unregistered TSI 105 example sat in the showroom for not much more than the used TDI. Has the full Sportpack and a spare wheel besides being green.

90 mile drive home and I have to say so far I'm liking it more than the Octy III. Not got half the bells and whistles but I didn't use most of them, about the only thing I'm missing is Hill Hold and one touch front windows; unless this is a feature the Rapid SE is supposed to have but mines not working :wonder:

Also pleased I went TSI than diesel, as the engine appears much smoother/quieter, plus it has a nice six speed box; 53mpg according to the maxidot, although we were stuck in a lot of road work 50 limits on the way home.

Not had proper chance of photos as it's been a long day but I got this quick 'proof its real' pic on the drive;

I don't think they have one-touch front windows like the Fabia had 14 years ago.

Do the windows go up and down if you hold the key button on a hot day?

Are you joking? :o that's shocking! Even my knackered old Fabia has Electric windows on one touch

No I'm not, they have purposely removed some features from the Rapid so it doesn't compete with more expensive Skodas, or to make them a few pennies cheaper to make.

My Elegance wasn't as well specced as standard as a Fabia was a decade ago.  (exept climatronic)

But it was an earlier one, things may have changed.

Blimey! Madness!

Great minds and all that, been and tried the key and no the glass doesn't move up or down when holding the lock or unlock buttons.

Forgot to say it has one touch going down, just not up :wonder:

One more thing less to go wrong then :D

They've not changed that since last year then.

My 13 plate Elegance lacked it too.

Like the colour BTW. :)

Our Rapid Spaceback SE has a similar standard spec to a previous 2010 Fabia Elegance; missing climatronic and one touch windows but has rear electric windows, bluetooth and multifunction steering wheel instead.

Wow, that was a quick change TP.

I'm sorry to read about your comfort problems.

You''ll be back in a new 2016 Yeti mark 2 before you know it. :smirk:

Oddly the Yeti SE 1.2tsi (105) is only £1,000 more than the Rapid SE with the same engine, once you add the style pack to the Rapid.

In other words there is only around £2,000 between them at list price.

Might be 2020 before I can afford to change again; so Yeti III :giggle:

Oh and hopefully the badly designed RHD MQB platform might have been ditched by then.

She has the more expensive Sport pack over and above the Style pack but I'm happy that I got a good deal ;)

The lack of one-touch-up window control is probably the only thing that actually does annoy me about my Rapid tbh... I couldn't care less about the other windows in the car, but putting my window up while I'm driving I'd prefer not to have to have my hand away from the steering wheel for so long.

Does look good in green :)

How is the ride quality over potholes/rough roads compared to the Octy?

Nice one

I test drove an Elegance as they didn't have a Sport in stock and that didn't have one touch either :) so I doubt my Sport will when it comes as it's an SE based spec [emoji57]

Looks great BTW. Hope you enjoy it !

Not had chance to test it on the worst roads round here, however I'd say the ride on the Octy was better, although to be fair to the Rapid, the Octy ran on 205/55 R16 tyres and full multi-link suspension, whereas the Spaceback has the 17" alloys of the Sportpack with 215/40 rubber and torsion beam at the back.

Mind it appears to ride better than the Monte, which we've taken all over the place, including into Europe. Plus like the Monte we will be switching to 15" winters later in the year. Just debating whether to go for 195/55 or 185/60 tyres (both approved winter sizes), the latter are far cheaper tyres and will probably work better in any snow but the former will give sharper handling :wonder:

Mine is a saloon type shape 13 reg Doesn't have rear window open/close from driver door nor one touch up.  Don't really miss the rear window control as previous car never had it either (3 door) would have liked the one touch up window though,

I have a sport and the lack of the one touch up is only a little annoying but just something I'll get used to (came from a rattly 03 fabia classic) so small price to pay

What get on my nerves is all the above. Plus the buttons are two far forward and  i keep on opening the rear windows

I used to do that on my Octavia.

bit cheeky I know but any chance of some more photos

just so I can show swmbo as she is considering one

Hi,

yes will try get some more pics, not really had an opportunity as yet.

I miss the one touch windows up and down. It's a habit to push for up and it goes a centimetre. I also have the habit of pressing the rear windows as the buttons seem far back. Only hate about the elegance up to now is the armrest. Too far from the gear stick and covers the hand brake. Also hard to put the seat belt on when it is down.

Loving the colour of the green though on your spaceback. Would have to mod the internal lights for a green glow though. It will look fab.

Agree about those one touch switches. That'll be something I'll have to get used to after my Octavia. Having said that my Citigo Sport doesn't have that feature :(
