Best Performance car!

Featured Replies

So many new cars with all around the same BHP but which ones the best!

Seat Leon Cupra 280 - Standard ish looks with twin tips and descreet; but with top model I like abit more aggressive looks. Lsd

Skoda Octavia vRS TSI - 220 bhp the only one with no limited slip diff, but does look ace in green and yellow, and probly the heaviest of all to.

Renault Clio 265 Cup - Also comes LSD, Lightest, Quicker than the Astra J Vxr 280 by a way because of weight, Looks ace in black.

Astra VXR 280 - Also LSD, Looks the best in my opinion because of how aggressive it looks with the big spoiler and 19s. All th car have proper recaros apart from the Skoda to, but the Astras dash seems to be abit cluttered.

All seem to have good MPGs apart from the VXR seems to be the lowest compared with the Cupra with the same bhp.

Focus RS is also in this catagory becuade if it's not the silly priced RS500 it's in the same price range.

Looks ok but abit plasticy, Best of the power but not watch drag races to prove, Worst MPG of all which isn't everyone's main focus.

Also the new focus st 255- In my opinion I hate the looks, to long and the back horrible, the Fiesta I don't mind, Reasonable power not the fastest or lightest.

What's everyone's opinion?

I think the Astra would be my choice, May not be the fastest but looks ace. Either that of the always track focused Megan 260 Cup, Very quick and handles great, if it was also a family choice then the Cupra would come into it, but poor looks don't help it' it's a nice car just needs a spoiler and bigger bumpers imo, the Skoda looses hands down for lack of a LSD which they need, and should be at least 250 bhp which is needed to compare as the Audi S3 is now pushing 300 and the Golf R/ FRI is high 200s to 300bhp , Looks just can't overcome a 50bhp less power imo.

On the topic of what they all hav and havnt got also, most seem to be packing 4 Pot brakes of some sort whether it be Brembo or Branded Cupra brakes which also the Skoda 14 vRS seems to lack by the looks, Ino there cheaper than there more refined Audi/VW but even Cheap Renault manage Brembos and LSD for the same price!

Haha GTR is above the like 25k Limit this thread about, I was going to put Reasonable prices car but then you could argue the new Clio/Fiesta/Kiaproceed crap are involved

Able to keep up with or is faster than the other bought new £17,000 - £20,000 200 ps Hot / Warm hatches.

Spend another £1,000 and it will handle and stop as well as them.

& be sure to have a 5 year warranty on it.

*The Facelift Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.4 TSI Twinchargers from 2013 Min 180ps (but has more, 210 BHP Stage 1)

can have the AP £1000 brake Option and some are around to be picked up at bargain prices. Again a Long Warranty is rather important.*

If you can get a Seat Dealer to sell you a Seat Leon Cupra 280 DSG 5 Door for a sensibly low price they are rather good,

One to Road Test.

As is the pretty good VFM Mk7 Golf R that are now available at Dealers,  Ex Demo etc.

the Leon doesn't have an LSD

Does very well without it.

Did I miss the £25k limit or did you forget to include it?

IMO I wouldnt consider them as "Performance" Cars. Yes they are very brisk compared to the average car, but to me Performance cars are £50k+ or more than 350-400 bhp.

That must include a M5 then as a 'Performance car',

you can pick up one of those for £15,000, rather than its original at around £50,000.

When going Used there is lots of Performance Cars available at £25,000

Sometimes Used Performance Car upkeep needs budgeted for.

Opinion will vary and you are sure to get lots of performance related division here... ie at what level of performance do you mean. From your list of hot hatches Id drop the VRS first and probably end up with the Leon 280 for an all round fast road car - straight line speed and traction out of bends is tremendous imo. For something that would spend more time on track Id go for the latest Megane or Clio possibly. A little further up Id look at the Golf R or S3 as great real world quick cars and for just under 50k Id look at something like a Cayman GTS or something slightly different for a 'performace' car - an Alpina D3.  over 60k Id take something like a Jaguar F-Type R

Leon is said to have LSD? Along with VXR and Megane? And didn't think of a Demo 280 Cupra!

Personally I'd go for the Focus RS if I was looking at high value hot hatches. I'd be happy to own any of those cars above but what would clinch it for me with the RS is the EXTREMELY low depreciation.

if you are after an out and out performance car then tbh one of the last things I'd prioritise would be the depreciation. Grin factor would be number one for me :) The current RS is just too heavy imo but does have amazing grip off the line. Think the RS500's can get the 0-60 dash done in around 5.5 seconds which is tremendous for fwd though. Also, its not exactly subtle in the looks department.

I may be very biased but I'd have to say the M135i is the way to go..... (?Interesting not on your original list lol) :-)

Transit focus connect RS Turbo crew! :notme:

M135i, there reaall nice, just not to keen on the rear, Front end of then new Bmws are gorgeous, and with 300+bhp and reliability makes them a good choice, always thought there abit dated in the interior though

Did I miss the £25k limit or did you forget to include it?

Nope no mention of price.

You can pick up a used gtr for 30k

I like his Presentation Styleee here.

So far this statement has proven 100% true   :giggle:

The engine is the masterpiece, the gearbox is awesome but its not pretty to look at (and that's from a yeti owner) ;) interior is pretty dull for the money and some of the options that I'd want to spec add 8k to the cost! I'm also not convinced by any statement regarding the 'German reliability' of them either :(

E92 M3 if you can suck up sub 20 mpg
