Best Performance car!

E92 M3 if you can suck up sub 20 mpg

I keep looking at them, but I really can't justify the fuel. I know I'd find it impossible to keep my foot out of it.

  • Best performance car is :-   - The one you like - The one that suites your daily needs - The one you can afford to buy & run      Anything else is just someone elses Opinion.

  • For £13,500 you can drive a Almost New Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI Twincharger Demonstrators from the Dealers. Minimum 180 ps. nearer 190 ps. Can be 22 mpg,  or 42 mpg, or on sensible days, 52 mpg. (Super Unle

I averaged 13.8mpg this weekend not constantly hooning lol. Fantastic car though

Oops, main point missed then, but on a positive you can pick up a nearly new Evo X FQ for 18k :) or a New Shape Subaru WRX STI saloon with spoiler haha or whatever they are called now, Very nice looking, both with 300+ bhp

The engine is the masterpiece, the gearbox is awesome but its not pretty to look at (and that's from a yeti owner) ;) interior is pretty dull for the money and some of the options that I'd want to spec add 8k to the cost! I'm also not convinced by any statement regarding the 'German reliability' of them either :(

I don't feel the interior is dull, in fact the "pornstar red leather" on mine really brightens it up lol!

Fingers crossed it will be reliable but you never know. I hear what you are saying about the looks, definitely and acquired taste.

I'm afraid I have to agree with this. Every time I see a 1 Series on the road a tag line crosses my mind . . . .  "Should have gone to Specsavers"!

No matter which direction you view them from, there's just something wrong with that shape. 1 series coupé on the other hand is a substantial improvement and when you get to a 2 Series you can breath easy!

The origial 1 series i felt was ugly. But over time i've came to accept them.

The latest 1 series especially in msport guise is a fantastic looking thing

I prefer the 1 series hatch compared to the 1 series coupe and new 2 series.

Looks like a 3 series coupe thats been involved in a pileup / fight

Blimey, take track days out and the GT-R averaged 18mpg.

Nope no mention of price.

You can pick up a used gtr for 30k

You can. But I'm not sure youd want to. Or youd atleast want to look at those warranty pack things they do.

Youd need some balls to run one without any warranty

To be honest once you get to a 135 level of performance/ ability it could look like Peter Beardsley and i'd still be interested. I've never liked the looks of the 1 series (like many modern Beemers) but there comes a point when you have to say 'does that really matter?'

I like fast bmw's.

Im just not sure id have one. Not because they arent nice, theyre really nice. But RWD and big power calls for big driving skill.

Im just not sure id be brave enough to take one on.

Id take an audi s3 or similar

It's only as fast as you dare drive it, just be constantlybexpectingvitvto catch you out and you'll be ok

Besides the ESP is really good, let's you get a bit out if shape but still keeps it under control.

Is it? The esp on my mates z4m was pretty useless tbf. Couldnt handle the power of the car at all. Thats the car that put me off them.

It put him off too, and hes the best driver i know.

His GTR is much more predictable and fun to play with than that bmw. And the gtr does bite on the limit.

Yes, works very well on M Dynamic Mode on the m3. You certainly get a lot more safety with a 4wd

Maybe im just a wuss then ;) haha.

I dont know why, I ride a 110hp bike with no rider aids and that doesnt bother me too much lol.

It's horses for courses mate! There'll always be rwd v fwd v awd debates and it's purely down to what people enjoy :)

Yeah i guess so. I havent had much experience driving them either tbh.

Maybe if i was interested id start with a 1.8 or a 2.0 litre rather than jumping straight to an M sport haha.

Always loved the audi rs4's though. Id have one of those any day of the week tbh.

Are you nuts?! RWD is class- even in 1.8 CVH Ford Sierra guise. All you needed was a bit of rain after some sun and roundabouts were a field of fun. Nothing to fear here

Sadly we are not all driving gods and neither are many that have RWD.

If they can keep it in their own lane with their arse out good enough, that is when the decide to go for a late brake into a round about next to you,

and then attempt to get away out in front,

or when coming towards you as you go into a bend and they are all sideways.

Not Reserved for those drift kings in RWD Sierra, GT86/BRZ or BMW's but also RWD LIght Commercials.

It is nice to see BMW are bringing out more X-Drive & the new Front Wheel drive cars.

After all the 'Ultimate Driving machines are really more about Hype than might.

Little Traction means sideways action, and a bowel reaction on the public highway for many drivers.

Drift king? In an 80hp Sierra? You could get it to wriggle but little else. I've seen more kids spin their front drive Corsas and Fiestas because they've no concept of lift-off oversteer than I have middle-managed in their rear-drive C250s.

There is a reason why the Mk5 Golf, despite significantly more power, is scantly quicker than the Mk2. Its the tech required to keep everything in harmony when one set of wheels does the accelerating and the steering. Its more powerful but the car is also significantly heavier. The drive to match RWD power in FWD format is pushing technologies on further making cars more expensive and ultimately more prone to massive and expensive failure. Would I pay the premium for a Golf R over a 135? Though i'm a VW man i'd say not a chance.

I used to have Automatic Sierras in the days i thought i was a driving god, and got the back out when i wanted, and sometimes when i did not.

as you said, just add H20.

I can get a 8o bhp Jimnys back end to come around at 15 mph if you just give it a flick.

It can do a double 360 with a bit more go, but you get to know not to do that.

First Frosts of the year in Glasgow is when you see the low loaders with the BMW's on the rear heading to the Dealer for estimates,

and the ones waiting to be collected sitting facing the wrong way on the Motorway.

Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire where there is the highest percentage of Prestige Cars, AWD, SUV's etc per capita is to be avoided as the first snows and ice arrives, and they slip slid their way around, causing gridlock as the Fiestas etc just drive up the Untreated roads with cobbles etc.

Tyres and common sense can make up for plenty of power but no traction, common sense can be lacking in many BMW drivers it seems,

Possibly good at business, not often so smart at driving.

Ah you see, the average BMW driver hasn't learned the mysterious benefit of the paving slab. I picked this up from my father and his Brooklands Capri.

I do have a certain skill behind the wheel but would never describe myself as divinity. But winter 2010 and spending 5 hours trapped on the M5 trying to get up to Jct1 taught me there are as many belelends driving front drivers as rear. How on Earth does someone get stuck in 5in of snow in a Focus? The trusty Mk2 (and in the subsequent winter 86c Polo) sailed through the poor weather passed an array of BMWs and a Maserati. Also plenty of front drive 'boot is best' brigade.

What I don't get with the mk3 Octavia Vrs is why it's only got 220bhp. Seems a bit below par considering even the Leon Cupra is given the 280 version.

A used C63 AMG.

This was posted tonight in another thread about tyres, but seeing as this is the UK with UK NSL's.  it seems to be relevant to the UK and our weather.
