Unlikely to happen but possible. I hope not as I'm planning on driving long distance the weekend after that date.

I do like some of the Treasury spokeperson's comments though.

I back them all the way.

I back them too and will do my bit as necessary. I was a trucker during the last one, and certainly did my bit there...

Clearly the price of the oil can't be altered, but the tax sure can.

What alot of folks don't realise, high fuel costs affect everything you use daily, not just your car.

I back them all the way.

Me too, as long as I'm at the front of the convoy to the petrol station..."oh well might as well fill her up while I'm here.." :)

I don't think they will get the same support as last time. IMHO they took it a bit too far when it started to affect the NHS ,causing people who have waited years for an operation to have them cancelled due to staff not being able to get to work..

But with Tony and his mob taxing fuel at about 300% it's bloody rediculous that we should be paying a pound a litre!

Looks like i'm going to have to keep the pastie brimmed then. i'm in warrington sunday, manchester most of next week, travelling up to leeds on friday rush hour commuting ans westhouhton the following weekend.

Look, i don't like high fuel costs as much as anyone but, as a blockade will only stop fuel getting out to filling stations, isn't that a license to the vendors to raise prices even higher? Short supply means you can charge what you want if it's in demand and people will pay for it.....

Or am i being too pessimistic?

True...they should have a 'contingency levy' for reducing tax when oil prices go up through natural disasters, not that it should be as high as it currently is anyway,...they would lose a lot less in reduced revenue than the economy would lose through protests crippling the countries businesses.

.. I think the protesters still need to keep a close eye on public support or they risk alienating themselves from Joe Public if they drag it out.

I see your point, but what started off as a protest ended up as a show of strength. Maybe it did go to far, but it illustrated a very good point, in that if the people of this country actually stand up and fight, thay will be heard. Blur couldnt ignore it and had to give in.

Stop complaining about the dark, and light the ******* candle, as they say.

I cant see them bringing us all to a halt as per last time.

Didnt they change the police powers after last time so the police can move any protesters on? I would doubt the goverment would let it happen again.

Shifty: I would have thought you could make a few quid from your waste oil for us diesel heads!?

Viva la revolution :chairs:

Its the wrong stuff im afraid, otherwise it would power mine.

As for the police moving stuff, how do they move a 44 tonne truck? (apart from calling the army)

The government probably wont let it happen again. They have been warned, and they know the results if they ignore the warning.

Thats exactly what they will do.

A challenger tank is quite effective at shifting stuff :)

The police might have the powers but they won't have enough resources. Lets face it they spent a decade of summers and couldn't shift a few soap dodgers from Stonehenge so i can't see them moving a three mile tailback of 40ft artics especially when the drivers have hidden the keys...

I'll back them  I really hope it comes down to this and teaches the government the UK public are sick and tired of being shafted !

For me this would be good as I could at last proove to my clients that I don't need to travel miles and attend pointless meetings to carry out their work. I must drive 15k miles that could easily be avoided if some old timers realised what you can do with modern technology ie you email me a drawing I'll price it and email it back to you. Not a case of having to travel all the way to the likes of Gosport, Newcastle and Plymouth to be bored furricking senseless in some stupid meetings

I seem to remember the last protest came to an end once Tony promised to look at the fuel situation one year down the line. And I thought that last protest was more than a year ago.

What makes me laugh about all this is the "Fuel lobby" is made up of farmers, now red diesel has little or no tax on it so if they are successful in getting the tax reduced, it will make very little or no difference to the price they pay......hauliers pass on the vat to their customers so very little would be gained there and the normal public (us) might get a penny off a litre.....in the meantime there will be no fuel, people will panic buy at the shops and those who cant get to work or cant travel at work because there is no fuel for vans etc. wont get paid.........I am really looking forward to this again

You might want to fill up tonight ;) If you know what I mean :o as there maybe an announcment tommorow which may cause people to panic buy. I can't reveal my sources but lets just say they get informed after the emergency services.

I've got bugger all diesel in the Fabia Chavyboy, may have to fill up on 99.9p rubbish.

But at a whopping 66.8mpg that I got from way back from Trax, it should last me a while.

Or is Chavyboy starting the panic buying off? Hmmmm..........

time to buy shares in pretrol company? Ivan, you sneaky little sneak you... :D

Thankfully, I'm off into town for a nosh up and chinwag with a mate just flown in from oz, so i'll be filling up in the dead of night.......while mr and mrs average sleep soundly, blissfully unware of the impending hellon earth scenario..... :D

I am just passing on what a reliable source has told me. Use the information as you wish, Panic buying is the last thing I want to do but I am going to top the car up tonight.

I'm just thinking about how hard it will be to fill up a few coke bottles I have along with maybe other containers.

Or just buy a frigging bike.

personally i back the protests 100% and its the panic buyers who caused people to run out last time, at the time of the last one, i was working in a filling station and "panic buyers" were queued back over 1mile!!! if they had just filled up as normal everything would have been fine and the protest would still have made its point.

i hope it does go ahead, i'm sick of everytime i go to a petrol staion its went up another penny.

when i started driving the fuel cost was 59.9/L for unleaded, my wages havent incresed that much over the last few years to compensate for

i'm seriously thinking of emigrating to canada cos this country is a ****in joke when it comes to tax now.

I'm with you there mate. Bloody sick of being shafted. :finger:

Personally I backed them last time around but I don't back the fuel protestors at all this time. This time tax is not the issue it's the oil price and blockades will do nothing for that. Tax is less than the last protest, and our unleaded is not out of line with europe.

Diesel is another matter, I understand that and I do believe hauliers need protection from foriegn companies. However what devine right do they have to block the general public from getting around to achieve their means? There are better and legal means to get that through legislation. After all if they cut fuel tax, all they will do is take back off something else and we'd all be worse off.... You can't just magically cut tax and therefore revenue and expect the books to balance

Surely protests though are bad for truckers. I know during the last fuel protest a couple of companies that got foriegn companies to do the work, and never went back to U.K companies!

Oh and truckers have short memories too, they weren't complaining when BR was prevented competing with them and railway men where loosing their jobs over a government issue....

I hope that the instant a protest is started they are arrested and slung in jail.
