FMIC with a standard bumper?!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive been looking through the search results but cant find a definitive anwer on this. I have just recently purchased a 4x4 1.8T Elegance hatch and im after a FMIC. As far as I know my car has a standard bumper (not a VRS one) but with washer jets for the headlamps.

So my question is; has anyone managed to fit a FMIC behind a standard Octavia bumper and not had to distort/cut the bumper in any way?

I have rung round a few companies and Jabba say their kit requires the standard bumper to be cut and it bulges the left side out at the bottom making the piping visible beneath the bumper and Forge are yet to get back to me with an answer.

To me, the Neuspeed kit seems the best bet as it appears smaller than most (but should still be a BIG improvement over the standard item!)

This is the kit im thinking of buying...

...but does anyone know any different?

Many thanks, :)

Lee

I never cut my bumper and i've got the Jabbasport FMIC fitted.

it does have a little bulge but its hardly noticeable, and if you we're to play around with the fitment then i'm sure that you could position it so it didn't bulge at all.

Cheers Alex, thats great to hear and if there is no one out there that can confirm that the Neuspeed one fits 100% I'll start looking at Jabba as I know they are highy thought of on here.

Thanks again for the info,

Lee

To fit the Jabba FMIC you'll need a RS bumper...Eddy has a 4x4 and a Forge FMIC IIRC...he also has the RS front bumper.

Bengie has a 4x4 with the Jabba FMIC using standard bumper...it fits but it's a bit of a squeeze.

Cheers Adrian - so there doesnt seem to be a perfect solution whilst retaining the standard bumper? And no one has tried the smaller neuspeed one on a standard bumper? I may have to get something custom done if that the case but it'll work out more

You could try the ABD one..from IP...althought the return pipes do go back under the FMIC and are quite visible from infront of the car....personally I think it's too low and if you lower the car you may well catch the pipe at some point.

I've the same motor as Lee and have had same querie about FMIC but have two questions, 1) is the existing cooler removed when FMIC is installed? and 2) I understand you can purchase uprated side mount unit, what sort of perfomance would this handle in terms of increased bhp etc?

The SMIC is removed when fitting the FMIC.

Allards built & fitted one for me behind the std 4x4 Bumper, Its "rather large!!" & works fantastically, did a few road tests & the temps were brilliant, Theirs is also corner to corner piping so the most efficent way of plumbing it & they use soldered cores & not bonded ones as many do, the "glue" is not the best transferer of heat so you get a less efficent intercooler but its cheaper to make.

For Allard Turbosports go to http://www.allardturbosport.co.uk/

Give them a call & talk to Lloyd, They will need the car for a day if they fit it, you will note from the piccie they plumb the return over the engine bay, gives a better line for the pipework.

If you look through the history of the company they actually pioneered turbo charging & what they dont know probably isnt worth knowing

No Probs, Ive spent a couple of years modding the 4x4 so glad to help

If you havent done the exhaust yet try Blue Flame, again good on price & for a remap I would recomend Jabba every time.

welcome to the slippery slope !!

I'll have to start charging for that link..... :D

Just had the FMIC fitted at IP, and the return pipes are now raised and are totally shielded by the front bumper, also mine is about 25mm lower, due to Eibach springs.

If you stand or kneel in front of the car, you cannot see them at all.

A big  to Mike at IP.
