Roof aerial replacement - Estate

Featured Replies

So !!! Having bought my VRS unseen and having been told "its in great condition", the first thing I noticed was that the roof aerial was missing. No problem?

I think so, as the thread that the 'sting' aerial would normally screw down onto is rusted quite unbelievably and the threads are worse than useless. It looks like it will require a replacement of the whole assembly that sits on the roof , but what's the score for removing the interior trim to get at it ? Anyone else done something similar and prepared to offer advice please?

Just hope I haven't got to try and thread a new aerial cable the whole length of the car.......

You need to take the headliner down a tad to access it but you could just re-tap the threads which will make them brand new almost and you will be able to thread a new Ariel on

Remove the side and then top trim around the boot opening.  This will allow the roof lining to drop slightly.  Disconnect the power cable (for the amp in the base) and main aerial cable.  I then used an adjustable spanner to loosen off then retaining nut and then undo it finally with my fingers.

If replacing the base, I used a bit of waxoil around the base to make sure of no leaks....

Thanks for the help guys, re-tapping is not an option as the thread is unbelievably corroded.

However, will give it a go, but one final bit of help....how do the side and top trims come off? Are they clip on/in style , ...am always worried about breaking the plastic ?

Thanks again!!

Yea just push clips so just a bit of gentle tugging and it should pop off

Ha ha sorry that sounded dirty to me

Dirty it may be, but good advice and the panels are off altho' to be honest I was passing by my local scrappy and apart from finding a few little gems, I also practised panel removal on their car. Indeed they do pop off easily. There was a manky old aerial on the "T" regn one in the yard, but have chosen to buy a new one from the dealer and TBH, it's not a bad price. Only one connection though , no sign of a power cable.

Thanks to all !!  :-)

It should power when it's connected to the Ariel it will all be in one cable
