Mk1 Mini purchase traumas?

Featured Replies

Your boss is an 89 year old lady?   :o

I'll most certainly mention this to my cub, as a friend of his  'in the know' reckons the auto is actually a very good and shrewd purchase.

I remember this being advertised now....and it's still for sale you reckon? :notme:

Any chance of some more piccies if it is?

Do you know if there's any rust bubbling through in the usual places/

Underneath?

So many questions to someone who isn't actually selling it, soz.

  • As many people have said Rust is the main factor for Mini's, parts and fairly cheap for them however and many of the body panels are still available, albeit even the heritage panels are getting fiddly

  • Does he mean it doesnt need any welding or it hasnt had any welding? id be very suspicious of a 20 year old mini that has never had any welding done to it,you never know though, but yes a through exami

  • Pretty sure my boss still has this looking for a home   http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/288711-for-sale-1989-mini-automatic-only-22000-miles/?hl=%2Bmini+%2Bautomatic#entry3438040

He isn't but his mother (who is now too old and infirm to drive) was indeed in her 90s when they took her licence away.

I'm sure in the past couple of weeks he has mentioned that he hasn't managed to shift it yet (and his wife was giving him grief :D)

I'll see if i can get some more pics - anything particular you want?

Rust wise i'm pretty sure it's still as immaculate and corrosion free as the day it left the factory - as you would expect for a car which has done less than 1000 miles a year in the hands of an elderley woman and probably spent 95% of it's life garaged

Excellent.

,We'd be grateful IF your gaffer can furnish me with some more piccies of the interior and ANY rust spots anywhere on it.

Underside shots would be good too IF possible.

Did he get it mot'd last year then? Any advisories?

Where is it now?

Walsall or Worcester?

tar.

I'll find out as much as i can and drop you a PM

Tar for that.

Youngster looked at the pics and seemed quite keen, but the Mayfair is still in the frame too.

Just waiting to hear from the vendor from yesterday ref. a professional check/fresh mot.

A text has come flooding in from the owner of this Mini Mayfair he's got the 'hots' for, and he claims it's sound underneath with no welding.

I've got the cub to text him back to see if he minds us employing a professional to inspect it thoroughly.

Now I don't know if it's just me, but if it was, I'd be checking the inbox regularly if I knew that someone was now taking the bait, and answering any questions without hesitation to keep them interested and 'hot'.

24 hours on, and no reply after his initial one.

Call me an old cynic, but is he worried about our request for a full professional inspection....or p'raps he's just very busy?   :notme:

No 'phone number, so we can't even ring him.

Suppose some folk deal with selling stuff completely different to the way I'd personally do it.

Cub was going to ask him again, but I've advised against it.

I was keeping this Thursday free to go down there if he was agreeable, 'cus nipper is on his day off.

I was going to PM you as I could put you in touch with someone I know who was selling a 1275 Midget however after they drove it today and saw what I can do with the paintwork it's being kept!

Still no reply, so I'VE sent him a message asking questions about old mot's, any known faults requiring attention soon and condition of the tops of the seats where they fade and disintegrate.

I'll sit back now and wait to see if he replies to MY questions, and if he does, then the 'get out of here quick' siren will be sounding.

E bay is currently not available I've just noticed.

Combo with 135k

Not read this for a bit. Last time I looked in, mention was made of a mini auto. That's an AVOID AVOID scenario for anything you want to drive regularly.

Very few were made, so I guess the rarity is an appeal to an aficionado, but "rare for a reason" I think. I have only ever seen one, and I worked there at the time.

Of course, there may be warehouses full of brand new autoboxes with all the gubbins to go with them, going cheap.

Or have we moved on?
