Tried to help the DVLA... they did this!

KEPT MY BLOODY V5 and REG CERTIFICATE! :grumpy:

Went in there to change my address on the V5 and license, and also to get my reg put on the car.... last thing I mentioned I wanted to change the engine number to ______ASZ, and I get a funny look, says he has to ask someone, and then keeps my bloody V5 & private reg document! :thumbdwn: At least I got the green slip.

I'm now booked in for a vehicle check at 9.30am on 19/9/05. :( I bloody hope this test isn't too complicated and comprehensive.... I thought these kind of checks were reserved for people building kit cars.

Anyway - gives me just two more weekends to resolve any problems which will stop the car being driveable under normal conditions.

[sigh] I tell you what, you try and stay legal and help out a government body then they throw more at you!

Nope if the engine from the doner car is registered as a written off jobbie then I guess you will need to have the test done.

If the car has passed it's MOT then there shouldn't be a problem.

Dont forget thy are not the smartest people in the world :P

Is it still Insured, I have a box of matches I could post you.

Your tenacity astounds me Jason BUT

Dont panic,

I bought an Impreza that had been totalled 2 months after it was Imported & also required a reg Change (originally on a personal plate) Guy actually came to my house, checked the various numbers, had a poke around to look at the bits that had been fixed & was totally happy. The only snag you might get is if the Donor Engine is out of a Stolen car in which case you dont own it, then its a case of negotiating with the Insurance company. If you bought the Engine from a scrappy hopefdully he should find you another smartish, he wont want to be tarnished with a reputation for flogging stolen goods

Engine is deffo not stolen as every time I wanted chassis/reg details from donor car he had to consult the insurance company concerned to get authorisation. :)

He said they'll mainly just verify the engine number but I suspect they'll poke around everywhere else too. The car flew through last MOT, only warning was on bushes in the front consoles, and I've got brand spanking new ones in now, so should be fine.

I just wanna get the car to drive properly now.

I have also experienced this when i wanted my private plate on my import M3. They were insitant my 1987 M3 was a S reg as it was imported in 1998 ! Took a while to convince people oddly enough !

Does it need another MOT after the transplant? :rubchin:

Hope not. But if they do, they can pay for it. :D

The inspection is being held in a car-park, so there won't be any MOT type tests being done as there's no ramp/emissions equipment. I think it will be VIN checking and new engine checking. Might check it all runs I guess.

Guess I should get the cracked screen replaced a.s.a.p too. :D

Had a bit of a blonde moment before, I though you meant something totally different!

They do it ever so often when you change a private plate, just to make sure that the car it's going on to has all the correct details as said above, they sometimes also want to see what car the private plate is coming from aswell though if on retention this doesn't count.

Had it when I transfered my private plate from my 306 to the saxo.

In my defence of stupidity I thought you meant a SVA type test :o

Mike. :D

Know what you mean, and I thought this was what they meant too :o

By the way, can you increase the font of the group FMIC buy link in your sig? I can't really read it ;) :P

BTW - This is a brand new plate, not one on retention or anything. :D

Well I could but I was soooo trying to be good! :P

As for it not being on retention, if you have got it from the DVLA (just bought it) then it will be on retention ;)

Only time it isn't is when it's coming from a doner car. Atleast I think I'm right :o:D

Ok Its as they say then, just checking the numbers, should take about 5 mins max. If the cars not roadworthy I dont think these guys have any clout, they can only advise.

Just remember......."sorry sir, computer says no !" :finger:

COUGH! ;)

You tried to change too much in 1 go. The trick with DVLA is little and often.

Does changing the engine affect the tax band it's in, or is the car still officially a 2001 (?) car so it's still taxed on engine size rather than emissions?

Year of manufacture stays with the chassis. The rest dont ask.

Well, engine size and emissions is the same isn't it? Between PD100 & 130?

Well, engine size and emissions is the same isn't it? Between PD100 & 130?

Emissions are (quoted) 135 g/km for CO2 and the vRS is 138 g/km so are different, but I have no idea which bands they fall in or where the boundaries lie. My question was really, as the vRS engine will always have been taxed on emissions rather than size, does that apply to putting it in an older car. Stuart answered that :D

150 is the next emissions tax band up - I remember looking at the breakdown in the DVLA office while I was passing the time. :D

I probably shouldn't panic too much, just concentrate on getting me & the car back on the road.

Still' date=' I'm glad I'm not driving a car with an engine bigger than 1600cc registered before March 2001! 170 quid!!!!

Yep, I pay 170 for both the Mondeo and the Boxster. The octy vRS was

Will the car be driveable in time for your checkover Jason?

Should be. If I had my front bumper back now & the throttle & brake sender had arrived, it would be driving now I suspect. Nothing else really needs doing to get it "driveable". Bit of work to do tomorrow - refit HU, hopefully plumb in boost guage too. But until I get the throttle I have no throttle control, and I'll have a flashing glowplug light without the brake sender.

Also hope to resolve the tough gearstick action, with Ross' help in the other thread. If the throttle arrives tomorrow, I might be giving her a shot up and down outside my mate's workshop. ;) Then it just needs tarting up.
