Speakers

hey all, has anyone tried or heard about rockford speakers? they any good?

am i better using components with seperate tweeters or just get all in ones and disconect the OE tweeters

PS. oh almost forgot, i have no clue about ice, what are the crossovers for? do i need to use an amp if the speakers come with crossovers?

kenny - not a big ICE man myself but the general consensus on the site has always been that the standard speakers are lousy. If you lookhere there are a variety of different comments on the speakers and what other people have tried. Have fun :)

Kenny, not sure about Rockford stuff, but if its just straight replacement speakers you want, then i changed mine for the following..

Front - Pioneer TS-G1746

Kenny,

Crossovers accept an audio input, and "split" it into several outputs - so there should be a high frequency output for the tweeters, and another for the 'normal' speakers, etc.....

Rockford Fosgate are an american brand of speakers.. they are ususally pretty good.. but tend to require more mounting depth than is available in std locations....

crossovers are to split sound into frequency bands so that tweeters get the high range mids - the mid range... and the bass to the low range...

Oh - another thing to consider... if you're going to replace the door-mounted speakers, you'll need to look at the mounting depth. Some Octavia owners have had problems getting speakers shallow enough to fit when they've upgraded...

If it's any help, I'm running the standard-issue Skoda speakers in my Fab, with a new head unit (Kenwood) and a boot-installed Sub, and it still sounds fine...

I cut the Skoda connectors off & thru crimped the connectors that came with the pioneer's onto the speaker cables. However i believe adaptors are available (Halfords ?)

As for Bass, i haven't managed to distort them, but i don't go for huge amounts of Bass anyway, if i did i wouldn't rely on bog-standard speakers for it ;)

There are some RF speakers that will fit straight in , but at

 - getting a rockford fosgate AMP for my new sub... :speaker: - I've been told it's a really good brand to have. I'm thinking about a pair of pioneer front speakers.

The Rf speakers I looked at were Rockford FNP 2614 from Bass Junkies.

In the end I went for Kenwood KFCPSR71 components for

And no probs with fitting them into the space left by my original speakers. I'm kind of assuming that Octy & Fabia speakers are pretty much the same size?

Mine were a straight swap ;)

The magnets on the Pioneer fronts are actually shallower than the Skoda originals.

Fronts are a doddle to fit....rear tweeter easy to disconnect just pull the grill off or disconnect a rear speaker.

Halford do have VAG connnector converters but I seem to remember someone having problems with them (speakers sounded stranged??). Easy enough to change the connectors.

Think there a speaker changing FAQ in the......errr... FAQ section.

Cheers - will take the FAQ section a look - I can't believe how I'm charging on the ICE on my car - front's next (or perhaps I should wire up the damn amp/sub first?)

Or fit the springs? What happened to your mate sticking them on for you?

Sadly, I'm looking at alloys again... :(

hi all are pioneer speakers good? am i better geting speakers with seperate tweeters and replacing my tweeters too or get the all in ones???

kenny i would suggest a trip to your local stereo shop? where are you?

they will let you listen to a few.. stereo is very personal some prefer one sound others another... you need to decide what you want it to sound like before we can advise on speaker types?

bassy or treble? what sort of music do you listen to?

rock/pop, im not wanting the best ever speakers just something good that can handle some bass at high vol!am i better geting speakers with seperate tweeters and replacing my tweeters too or get the all in ones???

yes get components in the front.. put 6x9 in rear shelf.

and a 10" sub in the boot.

You don't need 6*9s if you have a half decent sub.

I have a 10" JBL in my octy and that provides huge amounts of bass , enough so that I have the high pass filter on the HU to drop anything below 78 hz for the 4 main speakers.

The mate was busy shopfitting for "mother" - so I helped out to try and free up some time for him ( got paid
