Fabia Ambiente 1.4 TDI

Featured Replies

Hey guys, well Im probably going to be yet another convert. I am test driving the above car tomorrow and if I like it I'll order it then. Ill be getting the cruise control and parking sensors as well as all the usual kit.

I drive about 25000 miles a year hence the deisel.

I made the mistake of buying a fiat punto last time and its a big pile of tat so I wanted something better built, and I do like th sound of 60 to 70 mpg :)

Anyone got this model and what do you think?

Welcome - hope you enjoy the test drive. I had an old-shape Polo 1.4 TDI before my Fabia and it's a great engine. Lovely noise, very economical and surprisingly rapid (although the Fab is a bit heavier than the old Polo). I did about 30,000 miles in the first year and was regularly getting over 60mpg.

Well, the test drive went well, so on Monday I'll be ordering a Fabia Ambiente 1.4 td with the usual extras plus cruise control, rear parking sensors and the abs package (Im suprised this doesnt come as standard).

My only annoyance is that the Garage didnt honour the quote one of the sales staff made (whose off sick) and tried to add 40 pm onto the payments. The guy who I dealt with seemed unable to get it down to her payment quotation.

ARGGGGHHHHHH. I hope the rest of my dealings with them go better.

You will find, if you make a factory order, that you will get the new 80bhp euro iv engine (or possibly the 70bhp euro iv engine).

I'm told that factory order lead time for the Fabia is approx 3 months.

Next month Skoda will announce that the 1.9Sdi and 75bhp 1.4 Tdi have been dropped and replaced with Euro IV compliant 1.4 70bhp and 1.4 80bhp PD engines. (see vw polo range for info about these engines). The OTR price of the Ambiente SDI replacement will increase by

3 Months OMG, so whats the difference between the 2 engines?

They are just tweaked versions of the original 75bhp engine. VAG needed two engines to replace the old Euro III 1.9 SDI and 1.4 Tdi so they came up with this solution that doesnt cause marketing and sales any headaches....

Well, bugger me, if I havent just had a call from the dealer! They say that they cannot honour my order because the old fabia engine has stopped being made and there are no knew ones yet, he says he doesnt know if it will be one week or 8 months before he can order the fabia. So much for the Skoda customer service. I cant tell you how p*ssed off I am :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:

After having a 1.4TDi (Bohemia Estate) for a courtesy car on Monday, I can report that the 1.9TDi is not only much more powerful, but MORE ECONOMICAL and more refined too... Any chance you could wangle one of those instead? You won't be disappointed I promise you!

As Tom says, worth asking if they can do you a deal on a 1.9TDI. Not sure it's more economical though! I averaged around 50mpg throughout the time I owned my Fabia 1.9TDI (100bhp). The 1.4 TDI claims 75mpg, but I have no real world experience of that!

All diesel engines are to be revised to be Euro IV compliant. It may mean price rises and who knows, maybe the 1.9 will be dropped for the 2.0?

1.9 will now be Euro4 compliant as they have added particulate filters by all acounts.

Get the PD100, it has the same Extra Urban mpg (68.9mpg) and only looses out slightly on the Urban cold engine figure.

Cheers

you could also look at the VW Polo

I have had 1.9TDi and 1.4TDi courtesey cars... On the same trip to the office from the dealer, driving the same... The 1.9 returned over 60, and the 1.4 55.something... Just a thought.

So am I right in saying that if I ordered a 1.4 tdi itll be replaced with the 80 bhp model? Im asking because Ive just had a call from skoda to say the new engines are now available.

You can order an Ambiente with either a 70bhp or 80bhp 1.4 Tdi (PD) engine. The 70bhp replaces the SDi model and the 80bhp replaces the 1.4 tdi 75bhp model.

wifes car is a 1.4tdi fabia and I am a little disappionted with the fuel consumption - ok does 55-60 mph but then my octy 110 tdi does 55 average.

Think i'ts becaise teh 3 cylinder 1.4 needs reved a bit more to keep it running smoothly. The octavia will run at 30mph in 5th at about 1000rpm and still pick away smoothly but the wee car is down to 3rd.
