If you mean the light in the instrument cluster then there is a fault and you need to get the car with VCDS or a similar fault finding tool to find out what the problem is.

Even if you found the fault, it requires a dealer or VCDS to clear the light as it will not go out on its own.

You need to get the car scanned with VCDS to identify where the fault lies, it may just need clearing rather than there be a real fault. A generic fault code reader will not read the airbag ECU, it must be either the dealer or VCDS.

Ahh well of youve only just got it then you may have a fault, where are you based?

if it's a 51 plate the airbag will need replacing soon anyway, IIRC it's after 14 years but I could be wrong.

The expiry dates of airbags are a thing of the past, even for older cars they were withdrawn and can be used indefinitely.

When the things first became common, the manufacturers just didn't know how long the pyro packs would remain good for and added an EOL inspection / replacement to the service schedule at around ten years.

Ten years later, inspection of removed objects showed no degradation in pyro pack reliability and the replacement requirement was quietly removed.....
