tyre size question

Featured Replies

Hi i have the octavia vrs spiders 205/50/17. I need 1 tyre as its bold and 2 more tyres very soon. Been offered 4 nearly new dunlops for £50 but tread is 205/40/17. Will this be a major issue as after some research when speedo says im doing 60mph i will only really be doing 58mph.

That profile is way too different for an Octavia. It shows a >6% difference. Smaller the better.

The other fitment tends to be 225/45/17 which a 0.3% difference.

So you reckon leave it???

They will fit fine but it will be a stiffer ride and the speedo will be out which it most likely is anyway.

If you really need them then at that price it would be worth getting them even if just for a short time.

Check the speedo against a sat nav and just  to see how far it is out and remember the difference.

Brand new they are about £440. These including petrol cost and fitting will be £110-£130 and have 5mm tread on front tyres and 6mm on rear so for the sake of 2-3mph im thinking its worth it

Why not buy them and then flog on too someone else

Fit them and once you have the money for the correct size sell them on.

And as for 2 mph out on the speedo at an indicated 60 you may only be doing 57-58 anyway.

Picked them uptoday nd then soon as i got home people started adding 18" wheels with nearly new tyres on ebay. Always my luck but il fit them and see how they are. Cheers for replys.

But the 18s with nearly new tyres will be a lot more than £50.

They were advertising 18" with decent tread tyres so i wouldnt need tyres till sometime next year.

i assume you mean the wheels will be more than £50 which i agree they are but 18" wheels with decent tyres for £150 - £175 still aint bad thats what i meant. Just forgot to mention it lol

I'm currently on 205/45/17 and it looks horrible with the rim lip sticking out. Super prone to curbing as well.

205/40/17 would be a nightmare!

Just like that :D

IMO it dosnt matter what it looks like if it keep the car legal unit he can afford the tyres he wants.

There are too many cars running around with illegal tyres because the owners cant be bothered.

Appreciate all replies but what are your opinions on

18" wheels with 235/40/18?????

Hmmmm they are gona rub bud

Only chance is if u got rear camber and front arches rolled ?

Maybe :D

  • Author

Not having much luck here at all lol. Probably rub even more as car is on coilovers at 30mm drop :'(

  • Author

Will it just rub full lock or on rears too

Both

225/40/18 you want mate

If low u could go

215/40/18

If decked 215/35 or 225/35/18

Theres a 205/40/18 if want , but again usually when low cos stretched

You could always look up a ling long greenmax if stuck for funds, they get good reviews for budgets or achillies atr sports
