Service Costs

Featured Replies

Due to pick up my new Octavia SE TSi 1.4 on 1st and know the dealer  (Trust Group)  is going to offer their pay monthly service plan.

Does anyone know the cost of the first 3 sevices based on the 10000 mile/year.

I want to see what the true cost is to see if their deal is any good befor commiting

Thanks for the quick reply guess I should have found this.

Is the cost not £139 1st year, £259 2nd year, £139 3rd year.  Total £537

+ other costs mentioned

Isn't the fixed servicing £399.

Check yours isn't coming with 3 years free servicing already depending on when you signed the deal

Can you explain £399?

Thought this was an easy question but getting confused very quickly

My deal was 0% pcp so expect to be paying for servicing

Over the 41months the servicing plan is a little under £10 per month aka £399.00.

However, your paying for it yourself figure that you worked out Total £537 is correct + the various other add ons. It's the main reason I signed up for the servicing plan because it's a good saving and breaks the cost down easily rather than having to do it myself in the months prior to the service being needed. This tied with the additional costs of sorting tax and insurance out at the same sort of period was also a good incentive.

The current Skoda pcp deal on the Octavia is 0% interest and up to 3 years free servicing. I have the same deal on my Yeti and this means that it's three services at 10000 intervals over the first three years of ownership. If you don't book the service at roughly the 10000 mile marks be aware that you'll lose it.

You should get a letter through the post from Skoda at some point with the details of this package.

That should read "you might get a letter". I didn't & nor did others & was told by Skoda that as it's on computer they don't send out letters. It wasn't until others posted on here that the 1st so called service is just an oil change!!

Yep, that's all it is.

Yep, that's all it is.

Well, you do get your car washed as well!

The letter with my freebie servicing plan differs on a couple of points to the New Car Fixed Price Service Plan (£479-ouch):

The service plan includes a maximum of:
1x Oil change at 10,000 miles or 12 months

1x Inspection service at 20,000 miles or 24 months

1x Oil change at 30,000 miles or 36 months

1x Dust and pollen filter at 36 months

1x Brake fluid change (if required)

My agreement says dust and pollen filter (as required) and brake fluid change at 36 months. I'd have thought that they'd do the latter at 24 months but there you go. Does a Yeti differ from an Octavia's schedule?

That's what Skoda want you to do.

The reality is the £259 service only gets a pollen filter, fuel filter and air filter over and above the £139 service.

The kick in the teeth comes when you realise the extra three filters are only changed "if required". On most Skoda models this isn't until at least 60,000 miles or three years.

So Skoda will quite happily charge you £259 for the second service yet only change the oil and oil filter. Nice.

This is why a little time spent flicking through the service book in the glovebox can save you some serious cash.

I'm on long life / variable servicing and always pay the £139 and then add the extra filters only when required. Even when I add them the total bill is still less than £259.

Silver1011 - I agree with what you're saying about the pricing, but, there is no service book in MY14 cars.

Oh, really? Hmm, it's now even harder to work out what is needed and when. Nice ploy Skoda. Plenty more people paying more than needed then.

It might be worth contacting your dealer then and asking when the air, pollen and fuel filters are due? The rest is straight forward as detailed here...

It's not very good, and I think it will backfire on Skoda. Without a service book and information the owner is reliant on the dealer, which is a situation I personally am not very happy with.

I will go along with them until the car is out of warranty then its diy/vw specialist.

Most brands have done away with them to cut costs in making them and meet co2/environmental targets (making them not the car banding before anyone mentions it).

Yes I've not very happy about not having a service book I think it a backward step but it's the way things are going

My MY14 Octavia had a service book. Info on page 5 & 6:

Don't some brands have a smart card instead?

Yes I think merc have one

What would be really good is if the service history was logged on the car itself so you could just look it up on the infotainment, obviously it would need to be heavily encrypted to prevent tampering....

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not... mainly because that's how it works on BMWs.  The infotainment unit tells me what needs servicing when the 'service' light comes on, and then there is a history which shows previous services and what was done.

Nope, no sarcasm, I'm not/wasn't aware any manufacturers did this.

There is an adaptation channel to do with service history. Haven't had a play with it though yet ....
