Clutch makes ratling noise after replacing

Featured Replies

Hi

I have recently replaced clutch on mi Skoda OCtavia 1.9TDi 90bhp, 53 reg plate, ALH engine code but when i press clutch pedal it start to make rattling noise. I don't even press the pedal to the bottom.

Can someone tell what this could be?

Or if someone lives  somewhere near Castle Donington could you come in to have look at it please.

Help me please.

Rattle when pedal is pressed makes me think of the release bearing.

I did replace it, but is it possible to put it other way round or there is only one way it can be installed otherwise i wont be able to pot the gearbox on?

From listening to that, that doesn't sound like the release bearing being knackered.  Sounded more like a scrubbing metal....

Yes but what could it be? I guess i have to remove the gearbox again to see what makes that sound. Only where can I buy bolts that holds drive shafts on the gearbox? I mean online as i was searching but no luck.

So i just have phone call from garage where i took the car to have fixed as i dont have time through the week and so far they have told me that the release fork makes the sound and the gearbox needs to go out to have it checked and rebuild back together.

So far £200 plus (and i hope nothing else will show up) parts....

And i did wanted to save some cash when i replace it on mi own but now i will spend as much as i will if i would ask a garage to have the clutch replaced....

.....s****t.....

So i have mi car back home but....when i am slowly moving (releasing the clutch pedal) car shakes untill pedal is fully released. Another thing, i have lost power. And one more when i am killing the engine it feels like a big kick from the back. I know that the clutch needs to "sit dow" but such a symptoms should not be there i think.

Any other advices please?

Sounds like the clutch is not releasing properly to me

I think that the clutch releases as it should as would not be able to put any gear but i can change gears with no problems. Only that shaking, power loss and that kick with last beat of the engine??

If the clutch is dragging, it will be hard to select 1st and reverse.

But there is no problem to put any gear in. Anyway i will have to take the gearbox out and i think i know where the problem is. When the garage called me to have look when the gearbox was out i have seen that the mark on the flywheel is not exactly in the centre ot the 2 teeths on the release plate but closer to one of the teeth. So now it is out of ballance and the clutch is kicking and shaking when engaging. Forgot to say to mechanic so will do it mi self.

I have removed the gearbox to inspect the clutch and have seen that the mark on the flywheel is not in centre of the two  teeth on the pressure plate. I have been searching round the web and have found that it should be in the centre.Maybe it is out of balance and that  is why it kicks.  So either the flywheel is not the propper one or the pressure plate.

Also there is some wear on the rivets all the way round the pressure plate. I guess it should not be like that. Maybe that was making the metal scrubbing noise. The release for has catching them. I am not sure as the garage has modified (stupid i know) the release fork so it is not catching anything

Please help me as mi car is now on the car park with nose up and big hole where the gearbox should be and i have limited time to get it fixed.

It is only about 5 hours when i disassemble it so still not sorted.

Because garage has modified the release for to stop making the scrubbing noise i was advised to get new fork, but now i dont want to put it back together to have the metal scrubbing noise so have contacted the seller  and did send him some pictures and now waiting for his reaction.

Thats why i have put some pictures here as i though that here is someone that could give me some advise what could go wrong.

What a ****e position to be in man. I wish I could offer assistance but I can't. Message 'mushtafa' he is a mechanic who is known on here and seems pretty knowledgeable.

Was this from techni clutch ??

Looks like the flywheel is machined wrong so sits to far forward so the rivets on out plate are hitting inside box

Can you take a pic of the inside of the box and post it

I had the same problem ,the fork was touching thr pressure plate, but clutch wasn;t disenganging at all....put a new fork 1 year ago and still runs smooth

Yes i bought new fork but dont want put it back together and have that bloody sound again.

You mean picture of a gearbox? I will make some pictures tommorow morning.

And yes it is from techni clutch.

just put a new fork and that's it!  I guarantee it will sort it

Clutch looks very good

Previously there was dual mass fly wheel and i have converted it to single mass. I have been told that the fork does not need to be replaced so i have used the old one but then there was that noise.

So now i have brand new fork but it is same as the old so i belive that that sound will come back again.

It's the flywheel is machined wrong so the clutch plate hits the inside of the box !!!

Had this a few times with techni clutch there **** would never ever fit one

As you look inside the box you will see where the rivets have hit

Once they wear a groove it will be fine as it won't hit no more

Ok that would explain that metal scrubbing noise - but it only apears when pressing the clutch pedal so it is hitting the fork. then why is all the shaking when releasing the clutch ( when starting to move with the car. And why that kick when switching the engine off (it kicks with last turn of the engine) and why lack of power.

Anyway you might be right with the flywheel. Will see for seller reaction.

The whole kit is Sachs, including the flywheel. Techni clutch only sells them but i hope he will send a replacement.

put a pic with the fork
