Bolero Head Unit

Featured Replies

Hi I'm Jonny from Bridge of Weir near Glasgow in Scotland. I'm on my 2nd Octavia vRS and I have loved them both! My current car is one of the limited edition models that were produced before the facelift model was released. I have the bolero radio head unit in the car and the phone button only mutes the audio. From reading other forum posts I understand this is due to it not being a factory fitted option. My question is, is there a kit available to upgrade the unit to be able to connect my phone to it? I have checked a few car audio web pages and I can get a phone enabled unit for £299 but obviously if I can convert my existing unit for cheaper I would rather do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

  • Maxidot and MFSW save you having to press buttons on the HU screen or using voice control and have the relevant info in front if you, but it's not essential. Fairly straightforward to fit. And pretty

  • Yep good price.

  • Well, in for a penny, in for a pound, bluetooth module and wiring loom ordered.

Yes, look for a "Fiscon" Unit - it's about £250-300 on ebay but will enable full telephone functionality in the Bolero.

I think you need access to VCDS/Vagcom in order to code the car (i.e. to tell it it has a bluetooth unit installed)

It's this unit that you add to the Bolero to make it phone operable.

Have a look on CarSystems.pl or Cars Equipment websites for the complete Skoda / VAG kit: wiring loom, mic, BT module, foam cradle, etc.

Once you know what you are looking for you may find it cheaper on eBay.

I think Eddie_NL may have one for sale in the Classified section of this forum.

I agree with the above. I bought my loom and mic from car systems and the bluetooth module off ebay. It was about £150 in total and has been transferred from my Mk2 Fabia VRS to the FL octavia no trouble at all. Very pleased with it and it even reads out text messages.

£150? I want!

No maxidot on my car though - does that matter?

No.

I've not got Maxidot (or any posh display) and I've got BT (with a Columbus) using a virtually identical setup.

Gimmie!! Haha

Does it make a difference if you have maxidot? Also, Are these kits easy to install? I'm pretty handy but I'm a bit scared of taking my car to bits and not being able to put it back together! Haha.

Maxidot and MFSW save you having to press buttons on the HU screen or using voice control and have the relevant info in front if you, but it's not essential.

Fairly straightforward to fit. And pretty easy to put back as well. Lots of guides on the Internet and this forum.

Excellent. I have maxidot but no MFSW so it's good it can all be controlled via the maxidot controls. I'll look into it. There is a place in Paisley (next town over) called soundmaster and they supply various BT modules and wiring looms etc so hopefully they'll be able to help me. Otherwise I'll look for the fiscon stuff mentioned above and be brave and try and fit it myself! Will I need some form of keys to remove the head unit?

Removal is with Torx screws behind the fascia.

Would love a link to the £150 module for comparison... May well invest in one now and maybe some speakers as I'm planning on hanging onto my car for another few years

Ok so I've found a few £150 kits with the microphone etc - still says I need the maxidot though. Did anyone's here claim to require it? The coding is absolutely no problem though

I removed mine from the Mk2 Fabia vrs and everything was identical just plug and play no requirement for vcds and i too have no maxidot. Everything is done from the main screen. The module i bought was this which i paid £79.99 for and just checked the microphone and wiring came out at £40 so was even cheaper than i initially said. Im not sure what module you will need for your car if its an older model but i did a search for 5k0035730D.

I have an old car but a bolero out of a 2010 one

Thanks for your reply btw!

I'm going to research this more but a project I'm looking forward to.

It is the little thing at the front of the first picture. That seems expensive to me though.

It is brand new with 1 year warranty though, which you won't get by buying a used module on eBay and saving £100.

Thanks, so it's complete?

Where, typically should the microphone go? Is there an OE location?

Cheers guys

Its in the overhead light unit. There is a lead from the loom which runs to that smaller lead in the picture.

Kb is right about the warranty. You get what you pay for to be fair but it can be done cheaper even with a premium 3c8..d unit. And that would be new but perhaps with limited or no warranty.

I have bought a 5K0...D module on eBay

I have a pre-FL with no maxidot - have I bought the right module? I think so. All I'm after is phone and streaming music - I'll get the loom from carsystems.

Yep that is the one you need provided you have a Bolero or Columbus.

Awesome - yes I have a bolero

I need some more help please... :)

This here - will this give me the MDI as well?

I've just bought a bluetooth module and need the wiring loom.

Alternatively I can get this http://www.carsystems.pl/bluetooth-installation-kit-plug-play-for-7p6-and-5k0-module,id127.html but it doesn't say it is compatible with the 5K0...D - I assume this is a misprint? Any ideas?

I might plump for the first one if it it'll give me anything extra,if not i'm happy to get the second one

also, I have an iPhone 5S I want to use with this 0- I know I won't get RSAP but would be keen to see if the MDI will help me
