Octavia Mk3 Diesel VRS Excessive DPF regenerations?

Featured Replies

OK, maybe Luxembourg is a car drivers paradise (moneywise at least and while we have limits on our motorways, the oh so free Germany is just next door):

Road tax (carbon emission based) VRS TSI: 142g/km equals 93€ tax/year, TDI with 119g/km is 85€/year

But please don't come all at once, we are tiny, have not much space ;)

  • The DPF system doesn't wait until its 100% full and then continunally force a regeneration until its back to 0%. In addition, the best conditions for regeneration are not while driving on the highway

  • I'm not so sure we should be too concerned about the naming of the different types of regeneration here. What's important is how often the car is running in anything other than normal mode.

My Fabia was the same (including the fact that the light never came on), and my Octavia did its first active regeneration after 50 or so miles when I picked it up yesterday - I stunk out Sainsbury's c

Don't have good roads either ;):)

the only problem with our roads are:

1) full of cars

2) very short, brake too slowly and you're in France, Germany or Belgium..then you will know how bad some roads can be.

Back on topic:

How can I in fact detect if the car is doing a regen (active or passive) during normal driving? I can tell when it started just before getting back home because of the burning smell, but I haven't detected the smell during driving yet, I'm only at 300km, and the only regen I noticed was at 100km.

Driving the e25 last summer there were loads of potholes and some pretty deep

E25 is very much a transit route(well most of the country is) for lorries from the Netherlands and Belgium to go to Germany or southern France, with a little pitstop in Luxembourg to buy cheap fuel, cigarettes and coffee. So yes, there are a few stretches with potholes, but not as bad as that though, or you are very fortunate with the roads around Oxfordshire.

No the roads here are pretty lousy but the motorways are ok
