Do Vrs Owners Have Big Mouths?

Featured Replies

No. The Jabba remap was all I could afford and anyway I want the car to look standard. Maybe one day when I start drawing the state pension...

He already has a front mount ic, as we all do, just not one large enough to prevent the aircon or radiator getting any cold air :D

Which reminds me I keep meaning to ask - anyone tried the miracle gaskets yet? Do they work?

no ian you have the std side mount / funny angle / no airflow minature IC.. and my aircon/ radiator airflow is fine..

a/c cold water temp normal..:p

Got mine on Saturday....haven't fitted it yet. Might not bother for now as the weather is a lot cooler.

Go and get stuck in heavy city traffic on a hot day and see if that is still the case.

i tried kerb crawling round the town centre in traffic on sunday 20deg outside temp and no movement from temp gauge..

will find out for defo round the ring...

cos doubt i will find a 35deg day for some time...

At least one of the fans is on permanently while the aircon is on. The second will trip in when the engine starts to get warmer. The only time you're going to find out the limits IMHO will be in the conditions Denis describes - stuck in traffic on a hot day with the aircon on. Will you be leaving the aircon on round the 'Ring?

I would expect ram air to be enough at normal driving speeds. OK so the exhaust air from the I/C will be warmer than normal but should still cool the rad, plus a good part of the rad is not behind the I/C anyway.

the car is having bonnet vents as well over the turbo and radiator... but i cant get them done before the ring... these will remove any heat issue permanently.

Denis,

Go and get stuck in heavy city traffic on a hot day and see if that is still the case.

Nope, no problem with that. The problem arises when you are driving it stupidly hard, at lowish speeds (ie below about 120). The engine generates so much heat that the rad can't cope, especially with the heat soak from the FMIC. As the speeds are low, there is also not enough airflow to clear it. This also occurs at high speeds, as I found on the autobahn. Sat at about 155 - 160 for 6 miles (no problem), turned round at a junction and repeated the experiment. About 3 miles in the temp started to go up.

Bonnet vents, deffo the way forward!

Don't get any of these probs with my front mount, still sits at 28 deg. in the heat. :D

Des

Yeah, but my gran drives harder than you :D

But she slows for corners!

my recollection from the vid is that Des ignores corners and hopes they go away?:D

Paul, the FMIC and jaws look awesome! Have to agree with Howard though, put some mesh in front of it cos it just looks like it has been fitted by a blind one handed mechanic.

It was :D

Lol ffelan I just noticed it's your vRS on your avatar. It looked terribly like a FUBAR Rover 416. I guess scaling down the pic didn'd do any favors to the car, lol :D

Nice IC, but needs some mesh to stop the stones ;)

I was joking, Q, but I guess the mesh may stop *some* of the cooling effect. ;) (or should that be cool effect :D)

Perhaps she needs different tyres on her wheelchair? :D

Look, i'm fed up with this.

There was this dog right, running across the track I had to swerve to avoid it.

that wasnt a dog... it was Gossy's turbo leaving for safer ground....

Jon,

Just a word of warning on bonnet vents/scoops, stay away from the turbo area. Water and glowing turbo don't mix, just incase Paul decides to get the can opener/angle grinder out. ;)

Des

Des, we were going to ask you to do it with your dremmel, seeing as you are so accurate and precise with it ;)

:D
