Wrong oil?

Featured Replies

My dad got me this earlier but there's also a turbo diesel version of the same oil, will it be ok to use this for my next oil change or do I need to swap it for the other TD version??

What VW/VAG spec does it meet. 505.01 or 507.00 and you're fine.  If it's 505.00 then no good.

Whatever you do Harry, make sure you get the correct VW PD spec. You can possibly kiss goodbye to your camshaft otherwise!!

Looks like it's VW 505.01 compliant so it should be ok, this isn't rocket science, it says it on the fecking can!

Meets or exceeds industry specifications SaE 5W-40,aCEa a3/B3,a3/B4, C3,aPI SN/CF,VW 502 00/ 505 00,BMW Longlife-04,MB-approval 229.3kg1/ 229.51,Porsche a40,Renault RN0700/ RN0710,Meets Fiat 9.55535-S2,Dexos2*

505.00 is the spec for the non PD diesels, if it only meets that then don't use it.  505.01 is actually different stuff that .01 make a difference.

No good!

However you could post it out to me as it will be grand in my ll-04 oil specced bmw :)

I can take it back for an exchange for the correct oil :)

It has VW 502 00 and 505 00 approval but not 505 01 so is unsuitable for your PD engine.

The 505.00 is the older diesel engine spec, since introduction of 505.01 main difference its a more modern day multi-role petrol and diesel spec oil.The 505.01 generation gives a small level of improved engine cleanliness, and possible and wear control over 505.00 but would doubt if 505.00 would cause any harm to any regular maintained engine.

The PD engine is very fussy about the type of oil used due to the way PD operates in comparison to CR diesel engine. The camshaft in particular is susceptible to failure if an oil not conforming to 505.01 is used. Same as if you have a DPF, then low ash 507.01 oil must be used.

There are quite a few people with diesel Seat Leons who would disagree with that.
