So just a quick poll for fun.

I moved on from Skoda to my Accord.

I loved my Octy VRS and had nearly 7 happy years with it.

However since having the Honda for a wheels I think I'm being beguiled by the luxury of a more expensive motor.

I think overall a second hand Accord is better value than the Skoda, I think Skud has reached too high and got too greedy. the prices that are being asked are too high for what should be a value for money car.

Right now I can't see myself going back, maybe for a Superb but not to to an Octy or smaller. I think if I was to go back to VAG it would be an Audi. Maybe that's VAGs plan, to move us all on.

So if you've left the fold would you go back?

Yes I would and have done but mine are cheap low end cars which have always been cheap and reliable

Maybe, Nothing is set in stone...

There are times I miss my mk2 vrs BUT it was just too unreliable, I actually made the decision to buy without having a test drive and before it was actually released (I said I would have one if they brought one out).

Based on the pricing of the Octavia mk3 vrs and the news that they won't be releasing a Fabia vrs It would have to be pre loved one, not a new one...

I can't see me buying anything new again.

They've (ALL manufacturers) have pushed prices into silly season. I can only see a new car being good value to a business buyer that can offset the VAT.

Used + warranty for me in the future I think.

I left Skoda for a Saab. But i need somthing more econmical than my 9-5 V6. I'm seriously considering buying the new Fabia if it has any proper engines. Othervise i'll just get a 9-3 with E85 economy software.

I'm probably going Hyundai next year I've just purchased the new generation i10 and really impressed on how they have developed , price and refinement kit level second to non and going European is a no brainer now the Koreans are now well in the game

I just don't know. Every time I look to change I take a look at Skoda but nothing excites me. I was hankering after a Superb MK2 after my MK1 was so good but the quality just didn't seem to be there and I didn't like the seats. Plus the dealers were poo. I thought about an octy VRS mk2 but didn't like the facelift and the pre fl just didn't do it for me either. Really fancied a fabia VRS mk2 but reliability issues and my track record pushed me away.

I'm hoping that if I get my promotion at work that I can save up and buy something good. Unfortunately I doubt it will be a Skoda unless they put a decent powerful petrol or diesel in the new superb so I can have a sportyish luxobarge. If not I'll save and get something like the Jag XJ, Porsche Panamera or Audi A8 that I've been hankering after for years!

I did move away a few years ago and went back to Skoda.

I am lucky to have a company car and my first one 12 years ago was a little Honda Civic 1.4 which was the best out of the 3 available.

I ran it for 18 months and 80,000 miles and it was ok. I was then allowed to pick anything up to a certain price.

So I picked an Octavia as it was the car with the biggest boot and plenty of kit for the price.

So again 80,000 in 18 months without fault so I had another 2 Octavia's again doing 80,000 each in a similar time with no problems as they were still the best in the price range I had.

Then the company policy changed and I fancied a change so opted for a BMW 118d ES with a sport pack upgrade which was a bit of a tax break for me as well.

Well I did 100,000 miles in 2 years with few problems but I missed the space of the Skoda and also the better spec as the BMW had very few extras. The BMW had a harsh ride as well.

So next car you guessed it another Octavia this time a 1.8TSi Elegance and what a car did 100,000 miles with very few problems and was great on fuel for a petrol up to 48mpg on a run.

So after that I am now running a Superb 1.6 Greenline SE twindoor and I do a bit less on the miles now but still 87,000 in 2 years with only an errant EML light to date.

I am looking now for the next car as I change at 100,000 and to be honest there are still not many contenders in my budget for space spec and comfort.

So to date over 420,000 in Skoda's with very few problem's and I still like them so cant be that bad,

If you really want to compare running cost's the check out  the Fleetnews.net website.

I have to work on the retail price of the vehicle not the price paid and this makes a big difference to the cars but Skoda still come ahead of most others in value for money.

I an looking at others car but in the end I think I will most likely have another Skoda as the vital part for me is the cost in pence per mile.

Skoda are still great value for money if you look at the running cost's.

I left Skoda a decade ago for BMW ,Volvo and Mercedes.  Latest offerings too expensive though, no more reliable and in the real world, cheap motoring whilst having a bit of fun doesn't get any better than with a Fabia Vrs, so I'm back.  I would like one of the newer Merc C class estates but that's unaffordable for us for now. Meantime, we'll continue running our start ship mileage 55 plate Merc 220 into the ground.  It'll probably outlast us.  Time will tell of the Skoda remains as reliable as the Merc.  If it does, I'll be back to look at Octy estates in place of the C220.  If it doesn't, I wont.

Although my Octavia VRS TDI was the least reliable car I owned, I blame that more on emissions regulations rather than Skoda and certainly wouldn't rule a Skoda out in the future but they're not as desirable now that prices seem quite a bit higher and equipment is nothing special.  I was very tempted by a Seat Exeo Sport Tech which in a way felt more like a Skoda to me, solid car with lots of equipment available for a low price second hand due to appalling depreciation. The main reason I chose the Mazda was because it has a simple petrol engine which is increasingly difficult to get in this type of car as most are diesels.  The biggest part I miss about the Octavia is the Skoda community, I gained a lot of useful information from here particularly for fitting a stereo whereas by comparison the Mazda6 community just doesn't really exist at all.

I've left, returned and then left again.

I've left, returned and then left again.

Returning again?

Returning again?

Might do in the future, technically though I am still in as I do occasionally drive my late fathers Fabia whilst its up for sale.

I moved away with my daily driver last year.

Wouldn't have another because I find the new ones a bit mundane and not a fan of the new styling being quite similar in every car.

Maybe that'll change though.

Skodas range while expanding in models is missing quite a few things.

Everything caters to what the majority want.

No serious performance version.

No hot versions with four wheel drive.

No rear wheel drive.

Limited latest tech like Adaptive Cruise.

I guess a lot of this is being a budget car maker with other sister brands above them they can't outdo.

I'm finding my tastes moving on and very little in the current range appeals.

While I do like a project and I can never see me selling the Yeti I think the days of having a new Skoda as a daily drive have passed.

Until maybe they bring out something a bit unusual.

I also find most of the current vehicles a bit expensive, for what they are.

In the last 25 years I gone from new or newish vauxhall ,4 honda,s ,Subaru ,Toyota ,Kia and the last 2 have been skoda,s and have never had any rust or major reliability probs (faulty damper on the scooby and flty antenna on the octavia )both covered under warranty and not really a prob ,I changed for the sake of it or warranty had expired but have enjoyed them all and would return to any of them if they had a model I wanted,i think I have been very lucky and you have to be a bit open minded about all brands, they all have good points but my own priority when choosing is reliability and so far so good,

My Octavia has been a trooper given its age, mileage and its ability to fire up no matter the weather and just get on with the job. However this push up-market doesn't endear me to modern Skodas and the Rapid is a prime example. Why would I pay £4k more for an identical car with less equipment and no more brand prestige over SEAT? Its madness to consider Skoda as filling the void VW left when it moved 'upmarket' and the Rapid is a prime example of this folly. The car is over-priced, pure and simple. It isn't a VW. It doesn't have the same brand cache, it doesn't have the same interior fit and finish or equipment as in Golfs/ Passats. But it is priced and sold as if it has. It has driven me away from the brand when I was more than willing to move from VW to Skoda (balked at paying the same for a Golf as I did for the Passat). When I can be offered the same product for far less money it kind of makes the brand redundant.

The 1st Skoda I had was a new 55 reg Mk1 vRS in black. I moved away for a while then bought a 1.4tdi Roomster. Both of these cars were utterly reliable. Moved away again to a Vauxhall Insignia which again was reliable.

Against the prevailing thoughts and advice on this forum I've recently bought a 3 year old Fabia vRS that has no manufacturer's warranty left. Whether I ever buy another Skoda will depend upon how the engine and gearbox behave in this car.

Not that I've left, been with Skoda for over 10 years now, albeit it a short trip to fiat which was a mistake.

Now the Octavia is 5 years old I've been thinking about replacing but the prices of the new Skoda's are too high.

Not sure where that leaves me to go other that the French cars or kia.

I've left Skoda and came back! The mk1 Fabia really appeals to me and it is a car I will keep buying :) I'm quite happy to run an older Skoda as a daily but if I had the money to I wouldn't even contemplate a new Skoda for a daily! From what I've seen they are overpriced considering what they are especially when you can get an A1 discounted with more tech at the same cost of a Fabia, unless something sporty with a diesel and manual in the Fabia size came along I can't see myself getting a newer Skoda!

Though the A1 is only a 4 seater. But yes if I could get an A1 for the price of a fabia then it's a no brainer!

Exactly :)

Problem there is the A1 is smaller and the retail price of a basic A1 is £14,000 and a basic Fabia is just under £9,000.

A lot of people would go Fabia just on price.

IMO the new Octavia is a bit pricey but it is a lot bigger than the old one it is not far off the same size as the Superb.

If you look at the Audi A4 which starts at £24,000 as they have stopped doing smaller engines in them.

But compare the Rapid to the Audi A3 and its a bargain.

I have been looking at Seat's and although they are cheaper IMO they feel it.

I couldn't tell the difference between the Rapid and the Toledo other than the latter had more kit for a lower list price. If I were considering an Audi then there's no way i'd be setting foot in a Skoda dealership

We love our Furby so i can't see us moving elsewhere
