Supermarket delivery vans blocking a street

Featured Replies

Is it acceptable? For how long? How far away should you expect them to park and deliver/carry to a front door?

I tried to be accommodating today and I thought the driver took the ****. After he eventually passed I saw he could have pulled in 50 further back rather than blocking the street for 5 mins.

They're minimum wage employees trying to do a job.

Cut them some slack?

They usually end up blocking the street because something is parked illegally where they are meant to park. 50 yds down the road can be quiet a trek when lugging a heavy trolley.

You try doing that job for that pay! I've done some cover as a courier and it is a nightmare so before now I have just abandoned vans blocking roads but only for 5 minutes! It's not good pay either!

I do but it's happening more. There's bound to be someone on the forum who does/done it for high street firms with a reputation to keep (not just couriers who all have a bad name). What's the guidance they're given regarding being a public nuisance?

It was ocado in this case.

So narrow street, cars parked either side, no one can pass.

Delivery van stops for "only" 5 mins by which time there's several cars either side wanting to get past but no room.

Now what?

No illegal parking, just a narrow residential Street that unfortunately remains 2 way. It may be a trek but why is that half a dozen's motorist's problem?

Well we just do a job! You try doing 80+ drops a day and having to park and walk for every single one! If you did that then you wouldn't be finished until 8PM out here same as if you are delivering parcels you can park on a double yellow line

.......because folk are too lazy to drive to the actual supermarket

Actually there are a lot of elderly and disabled who get these deliveries and those who are struggling to juggle work so it's not all "folks who are too lazy to drive" around here the nearest supermarket is 40 miles away with little bus service

Actually it's the driver who was too lazy in this case. What ****ed me off the most was that I didn't even get a thanks.

Whenever I'm doing cover work as a courier I always make a point of thanking them
