  • Saw a guy arguing that he wasn't getting his tax disc win a post office today. Even after he was shown a news article and leaflet on the changes, he was still kicking off that they'd stolen his disc

All sorted, Colin does my tax now!

  • Just installed my replacement tax disc.  Best hope I don't have to go anywhere in next 2 hours.

I cant believe some of the prices tax discs have appeared for on ebay, you could buy two 6 month discs for £500 one is one of the last issued, and the other has an expiry date of 30/09/14. Then there is another one issued on the 30/09/14 which is up for £1500 both apparently collectors items.

Mine is 30/09/15 too. I'l have a look and keep it, might be worth millions on antiques roadshow in 200 years.

Has anyone seen this one:

Look at the expiry date and then where he states that it was issued days before the abolishment.

Had to laugh at an article in the paper today saying that people and been trying to tax online for upto 13 hours.

Why didn't they just get off their backsides and go to the PO.

I usually renew my tax online but this time I went to the PO a week early and it was done in no time at all.

Does that mean if i wanted to, i could just pay £23 a month for polluting?

So why is 6 months DD cheaper than 6 months cash, yet 12 months DD is MORE than 12 months is?

You pay 10% extra for paying 6 monthly (as before) or 5% extra for paying 12 months tax over 12 instalments by direct debit. There is no option for buying 6 months tax and paying for it over 6 instalments as such. They presumably just include that as an illustration. AFAIK the only way you could actually do that would be to buy 12 months tax by monthly direct debit, but cancel the direct debit after 6 instalments!

They may as well have scrapped the 6 month cash rate really hadn't they? The only people likely to go for that option now are those with a particular aversion to direct debits I would have thought.

I wonder if a digestive biscuit will fit in there?

it will.... i tried a wagon wheel it didn't :(

Not read all thread so excuse me if already been said,

As of 1st november you can pay monthly for car tax via direct debit. So no need to remind yourself as it keeps renewing every month untill you tell dvla to stop

Obviously NOT then! ;-)

& Next is the stopping of issuing the Paper Counterpart to the UK Driving licence. 2015.

I think that's quite sensible. The stupid thing is that currently neither part is valid on its own. You have a handy card, yet have to take the paper bit every time you need to use it.

They have not yet made everyone with an Old Style Paper only Licence get a New Style one.

They have set a Date to several times and never got around to it.

Being the holder of a Paper Licence & no Photo Card can be useful on Mainland Europe and sometimes problematic.

My dad still has his paper one, as he has never had a need to change it. But then he has no plans to leave the country.

There is no real need to get a Photo Card style licence if you have the Paper Only Old Style, if not changing Address or Name,.

but when you reach 70 year old, you do,

and if you do not have a Passport, then it is a PITA with the DVLA,

you need to send in a Birth Certificate & other ID as well as the person signing the Photograph.

UK Government & HMRC / DVLA need to rethink things it seems, maybe a Sticker issued with VED purchased and with Car Insurance and a MOT passed.

I like the fact they lost a huge amount...& that's considering they now take the whole month even if car was registered at end of month..like mine..last fecking day, so get charged for full month...ok this only applies to first reg or if selling...but they are earning loads from this rip off..

I bet many rural areas etc where there are less NPRC systems alot are not taxing....

'They' are us.  They work for us collecting money.

So when they are crap at running things people not paying or others over paying is them messing up doing things for us.

I know how the system works....

just us who do everything by the book get a bit fed up when we are ripped off by "they" ..who to cover for the loss of money from those who want to get away with not paying their dues...

pick on the easy targets...as always..

Yes but time those that lose the public money get surcharged, bonuses cut etc.

Hold the decision makers responsible.  Bad idea, badly organised, costing the treasury money, and increase the penalty for those with illegal vehicles on the road.

Increase the penalty on those not registering as a vehicles keeper.

too much carrot..not enough stick ...it could be said..

The penalty / fine for no insurance is lots less than the cost of insurance for some even if the car is seized and crushed.

No VED is not even a Police / Prosecution matter, just the DVLA Penalty.

Thing is you can only get VED if the car is MOT & insured...so you can bet your bottom dollar that those that have no VED are not insured & not road worthy...

ok there will be a small amount of people who have forgotten by a few days etc...even I did it this under this newer system as car was bought at end of month so thought tax was then, but because they tax from start of month....so I forgot & thought I had 30 days to get it....oh dear....realised and was only just over...thankfully hadn't driven the car on that day, and car was under 3yrs old & insured..

Thing is Police Officers called about abandoned cars can be totally uninterested, even when no VED and they have been told many times,

they say contact the council.

That is until sitting outside a councillors house or a member of the Royal family is due a visit and the vehicle is in the are they are securing drain covers and such.
