No Tax Disc From October

Featured Replies

Only recently found out that definitely we'd have no tax disc from 1st October.

Will we still get a postal reminder when it expires? I rely on that to remind me to get my MOT sorted. Very nervous that I might forget to get the various vehicles taxed  with holidays, computer failure, personal issues etc. causing distraction. The disc was a positive and visible reminder.

  • Saw a guy arguing that he wasn't getting his tax disc win a post office today. Even after he was shown a news article and leaflet on the changes, he was still kicking off that they'd stolen his disc

All sorted, Colin does my tax now!

  • Just installed my replacement tax disc.  Best hope I don't have to go anywhere in next 2 hours.

Yes you still get a postal reminder, and tax as normal. You just no longer get a disc.

Been being discussed on here for at least 6 months.

You are well behind the curve.

Ever tried using the search function...?

Gary,   No one would be searching for tax discs if you did not have a clue that the paper tax disc was to end anyway.

My manager taxed his car at the end of august and recieved a letter saying on the 1st october tax discs will end.. And hes not getting a disc either

I got my collectors edition disc at the end of July.

I got a disc with my car last weekend, dealer told me I'd still have to display it after 1st of October?

On the 1st October you can remove it, there is no requirement to display one after that date.

I had to renew mine at the end of august.

I received a crappy quality disc that i had to cut out myself to tie me over until 1st Oct

Yeah. Its just like standard A4 paper quality, its of a lower resolution and i had to use scissors. Toh ;) haha.

Did you get yours from the post office? Apparently you only get the crap version if you order online because the DVLA has run out of the perforated ones.

I am off big vac next Monday, tax runs out end of September. I popped off to the local PO instead of waiting for the reminder from DVLA.

Nice lady behind the counter did all the paperwork. Told me all was set and I was the first non disc renewal she had done. So fame at last.

I am using Thunderbird as my email client and there is an addon called lightning which provides a pseudo filofax environment. You just put all birthdays and anniversaries, dates when the bin men are due or you are going on holiday. Various lengths of forwarning etc etc.

I'm sure there are other possibilities, even standalone software. This one integrates so well I use it all the time. Really easy to use and edit.

Because it will be a rolling direct debit payment once you buy the car so it will be monthly!

Right it's not a compulsory way of doing it but it is one of their options!

Taken from DVLA website

Paying vehicle tax by Direct Debit

From 1 October 2014 (5 October if setting up at a Post Office[emoji768]), Direct Debit will be offered as an additional way to pay for vehicle tax. This will be available for customers who need to tax their vehicle from 1 November 2014:

annually

6 monthly

monthly (12 months tax paid for on a monthly basis)

Provided an MOT remains valid, the payments will continue automatically until you tell DVLA to stop taking them or you cancel the Direct Debit with your bank. Valid insurance should also be in place for vehicles registered in Northern Ireland.

The Direct Debit will be cancelled and payments automatically stopped when you tell DVLA that you no longer have the vehicle, or the vehicle has been taken off the road and a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) has been made.

Cheers! Didnt know that!

I,l just stick to renewing it when i get a reminder through the post i think

Edit: bikes £70 a year and cars about £120 odd i think, so its not bad for me. I guess the direct debit is more useful for people with vehicles in high tax bands.

Yeah i will be wanting to just get it over with once a year :)

You pay 10% more if you buy 6 months tax (as is now) or buying by DD monthly only 5% more over the one off 12 month price.

I got a proper disc when I renewed last month.

They won't let me pay monthly........ I'm in tax band A
