Engine light flashed few times and then EPC light came on

Featured Replies

Hello Guys, need some help.

Today my VRS only 17k miles started to act :) Accelerated quite rapidly today, the revs hit red zone for few secs and after that engine light started to blink and ECP light came on, after awhile engine light switched off but ECP remained. The car became undrivable, loss of power and shaking. Stopped switched it off for a min and restarted. All warning light are gone, car drives normally. Accelerated rapidly few times, everything seemed to be ok. Does anyone know what might have that been? Is it some temp fault or coil packs are going? Or something with air sensor? I have revo remap and K&N high flow filter.

thanks in advance for your help!

You'll need VCDS to extract historic error codes. My guess is the combination of bouncing off the rev limiter with the Revo map (too high boost / possibly too lean fuel) has kicked a sensor beyond acceptable tolorences and forced the ECU in to limp mode. However limp mode should not feel rough, just very very limp.

The fact that all is okay after restart would indicate the fault is electrical/electronic rather than mechanical. You really need a dealer to extract the error codes to be sure of cause. Perhaps the Revo agent can do this for you also.

I think the idle was ok not jittery, but when driven it was not letting me to accelerate and shacked a bit. After i stopped it it started normal. will try to provoke it a bit today. But yes will also try to find the VCDS.

Stay away from the red line until/unless the fault has been identified. With the TSI engine producing highest torque within the mid-range (even on APR/Revo remapped cars) there is very little need to venture above 6k rpm.

Was you using standard 95 RON or Super 98+ RON fuel at the time? If 95 then I suggest using Super from now on as the problem may have been caused by the knock sensor detecting det (pinking) which can lead to major failure. Higher RON fuels are less prone to det.

I have never user 95 in this car, always fillup with 98, this time i filled V-Power Shell. Well the problem is that it is DSG and when i accelerate hard it always spins wheels on 1rst gear leading to revs dancing in red zone for awhile before changing to 2nd. Will try few hard accelerations to see if the prob comes back.

I'd suggest you short -shift use the paddles for manual change in first and second, all the torque is going south from 4-1/2K upwards so short-shifting won't slow you down and may control some of the wheel-spin/traction control issues leading to better acceleration and less front tyre wear, just takes a bit of practise but, its fun.

was abusing the car the whole evening, no EPC and engine light, could have been some temp electronic fault?

Just read those error codes looks like misfire happened. Does this start to look like famous coilpack problem? Although been driving the car for a while now, did not happen again yet.
