04 Reg Honda Civic Type R treated to an Enhancement Detail

Featured Replies

Thanks to Matthew (Mate of Dan with the blue Clio) for bringing his 10 year Old Type R here today

This car had been a CatD Insurance job and had been extensively rebuilt and resprayed (Only the roof appeared to be untouched)

Paint reading indicated 285 microns on the bonnet!!!

Anyway...a long day ensued

Matt and Dan had previousl washed and clayed the car, but it was heavily swirled in places and the paint was strangley matt too...particularly on the bonnet

The car was Snow Foamed and Washed with TBM and dried with CG Wooly Mammoth Drying Towels

Honda paint is very soft, so some experimentation with finishing pads and polish was order of the day

In the end I went for a medium Hexalogic pad and Sonax Profiline 4/6 polish on my Rupes Rotary for spot scratch removal and smaller areas

The bonnet was a PITA ..it needed a good hour +  to remove the matt finish to the crap laquer finish done after the rebuild.

The majority was then polished with my DA with a Hexalogic finishing pad and polish

The car was then wiped down with CarPro Eraser to remove polishing oils

I then decided to have ago at the headlights..They were dull and marked

I wet sanded them and polished with a 3M spot compounding pad and Scholl S3...finished with GTechnik P1 on a finishing spot pad

The Wheels were pretty bad...

Matt knows they need refurbishing, so just a clean up with Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels Iron out Cleaner and then sealed with Sonax BSD.

I then applied AB Hellshine Abyss and Matt buffed it off..leaving it to haze as per AB instuctions before the buffing

Door shuts cleaned and sealed with BSD

Windows cleaned inside and out with Megs Ultimate Glass Cleaner

Tyres applied with Megs Tyre Shine

Tailpipes polished with Megs Metal Cleaner and a polishing ball on my drill

Finally, with the Sealant now cured, we applied a coat of WetGlaze 2.0 ...a lovely product that can be used under or over a LSP

This gave the final finish some real bling and a lovely slick feel

Matt was very pleased indeed

Some pictures of the car when finished:

Whats a Typer R ( is that a typo!?) popped round today to see Chris could not give a hand as only one day off in 14 and ten hours a day so needed a break.Matts a GREAT guy . The spray and repair left much to be desired especially the nearside wing were the pre facelift wing was put in and indicator aperture badly filled in. Good result as usual, the tailpipes have come up well as they were a mess too

Nice job the car looks great.

Glad to see the abyss making a show.

Thanks Alan. ...You guessed right!!

Difficult to get good reflection shots to show the shine, but you can see it looks great.

I think half the battle is getting the light just right on camera to show how good your work is.

Lovely job Chris. They recon this particular Honda Civic Type R model was the best one ever produced.

+1 on the job Chris, nice work.

Always fancied one of these with the mental revvy engine, turbo is the lazy way to get the power :peek:    200hp seems almost routine now but quick car 10 years ago.  Would probably still give my remapped octy a bit of a pasting, especially through the bends.
