bluefin or not?

Featured Replies

Cheapest for me was Admiral....  I think the difference for adding the box with Admiral was around £50 or so. I've just put the car back to standard on the insurance seeing as the box never got purchased and my monthly payments have gone down by about £3-4 a month. (Approx 3 months into the policy so 9 months remaining).

Have you tried gocompare as they now have the option to put in that you have mods which then narrows down the results to those who insure modified cars. This is what i did earlier this year.

Here is my nocompare comparison:

So I don't think I will be getting a tuning box fitted now, as the cost to me over 2 years is going to be +£500 on insurance premia and + £370 for the DTUK tuning box + £50 for a set of car ramps.  That's over £900, to scratch an itch.

Although, I have to say that the free handbag cover from Diamond insurance is making me waver.

So you only pay £130 a year for your insurance as standard..... I want your insurance!!!!

Mine went from about £280-odd to £330-odd with Admiral. If yours is showing £386 and over two years it'll be £500 extra that means your standard premium is only £130-odd a year???

To work out the cost of the box you only factor in the difference between the standard policy and what you are paying for the mod as you would be paying the standard policy cost anyway....

So in my case for two years it would have been approx 2x £50 increases, the cost of the box £359 (CRD-t box with Briskoda discount). So £459 for the two years. (I dont need ramps as my driveway is steep so park the car overhanging the drive is the same thing ;)

But then don't forget the resale value of the box so maybe sell the box for £150-200??? I haven't checked recent used prices.... So then in the end it's cost me £259-309 over two years.

Haha. Direct Line. New policy. £167, with £45 back through Quidco. So that's £122. I do have 2 other cars, and my house insurance with DL as well. Last year I got £60 in m&s vouchers for each policy when clicking through a moneysavingexpert link.

Has anyone got any good insurance quotes? My renewal is £130 with DL without the box, and the best I've had is £430 with LV with the box fitted (no limit in bhp), and £370 with Admiral (constrained at +25% bhp).

I did mine at the same time as moving from Superb to eclass, so I can't isolate CRD-T box on its own, but increase was £43 p.a,

I bought my 9 month old CRD-T box on eBay for £72.

cheers, Steve

No issues with the performance, but it has hit the economy by around 10%.

I am currently trying another setting for the week (map 2 +1) and I also have the boost sensor disconnected as suggested by Andrew at DTUK.

Seems to be strange advice, with the boost sensor disconnected there will be no point in the '+1' part. Surely instead of disconnecting sensor it would have made sense to do 2 & 0

+2 was too aggressive IMO for a daily driver (SWMBO drives it the most)

+0 was worse to drive than std IMO.

I have currently set it on map 2 +1, which in the short time I have driven it drives as nice as the 3 +1 map, if the fuel consumption is acceptable this time then I will try another tankful with the sensor reconnected back up.
