BMW 535d Paint Correction

Featured Replies

Thanks to Wayne for arranging a work colleague to come today with his rather neglected BMW 535d

It was quite clear that it required more than a basic detail

Anyway...cracked on:

1. Wheels cleaned with a strong wheel cleaner and AB Purple Rain Iron Fallout remover...and wheel woolies

2. Snow Foamed and washed with TBM

3. Lower areas of the car sprayed with Tar remover

4. Car clayed with Farecla G3 Clay Mitt and Bilt Hamber Regular Clay

5. Car then resnowfoamed and dried off

6. Car inspected, Paint readings revealed good paint thickness, but it was heavily swirled in most places

This was the bonnet:

7. Then began polishing with a Medium Rupes Ventilated Wool Pad with Sonax Profiline Polish..This seemed to be working fine

This was after I finished prior to Finishing off with a Medium Hexalogic and Menzerna Finishing polish.

8. Cracked on with rest of the car.

9. Shuts and Wheels dressed with Sonax BSD

10. Car applied with AB Hellshine Abyss

11. Glass cleaned

12. Tyres dressed

FINISHED!!..............8 hours!! and knackered

Pictures: It was getting dark so the true shine was actually better than the Photos

Brilliant work chris. Loving seeing the Abyss pics.

I may even stick another coat on my car.

Nowt better than a big black shiny Beemer, specially a 5 series.

(Except a big shiny blue Skoda) :p

It was actually Metallic Dark Blue. It did show that in daylight..just

Looks nice & clean. Good to see you are trying to show a before & after, albeit i can't see the difference. Not sure if you have some lights & a camera. Try & set up a light source & it will make it much easier to get good pictures. Keep up the good cleaning.

That should cover all bases. Anyway cheers for pics, always enjoy nosing at people's work.

One has swirls, next one has none. I cannot see colours but I can see swirls, then none!

In the interest of being fair here, it's daylight not a studio and I can see correction and reduction in swirls.

They don't look heavy but the enhancement is clear.

Is it an iDevice the photos were taken on, it may not be capturing things as well as a DSLR would.

Hardly any, but thanks for your reply. All I'm saying is it would be good for ChrisrS to build up his portfolio if he did better before & afters. Perhaps some 50/50!shots also, anyway let's not dwell on it.

Well said I think a trip to spec savers is in order. :D

Agree good before and afters show to all what is possible.

Also good for the person doing the work, sense of achievement is even greater.

Another nice car and another fine job

quick question, on the last couple of details you have gone back to actual clay rather than a mit, is there a reason for this? better result? quicker?

It can be preference led, I would guess though perhaps as simple as claying different areas of a car, if you have some tight areas at the front of a car around the number plate etc and splitter a clay bar wins out for me because you can focus your efforts better in cleaning up small areas, same goes for wheels and other awkward bits.

Nowt better than a big black or dark blue white beemer.

Third time lucky! ;)

It depends on the level of contamination

Proper Clay will remove more, quicker,  than a Mitt version. In the case of the BMW ; the paint was really rough and time was limited

Thanks to Chris for another amazing result on a BIG dirty car.

Working all day single handed and not stopped til It was up to Chris s standard,

even though it was getting dark - what can i say!

My 2 cars next! ;-)
