Fabia vRS - To buy or not to Buy?

Featured Replies

I know there's been a lot of discussion already about this, so forgive me for asking. I currently have an Octavia (which I'm looking to change) and had a test drive last week in a ten month old dealer demonstrator fabia vrs with 6k on the clock, should I buy and take the risk with high oil consumption or simply walk away and get something else? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I took the risk 12 months ago and unfortunately it ended up having another engine a few months ago under warranty. However im still glad i made the decision to buy the car and i intend to keep it for a number of years. Its the smile factor for they are awesome fun to drive. It will sti have manufacturers warranty so you ll have nothing to worry about, plus they dont all have issues its just the luck of the draw, but imo its worth the risk. You could speak to skoda uk and given them the reg and they should tell you whats been done to it if anything.

if its warrantied whats the risk???? thats way i looked at it, my finance deal runs out just as the warranty runs out, i will make my decision then as to whether i keep it and extend the warranty.

Just buy the car I'm on my 2nd one and haven't had any oil issues :-)

Thanks for your replies folks, gives me something to consider.

me too. I may well keep this one too :)

Buy warranty and enjoy a big smile on your face - don't forget to take her to at least three track days a year and change plugs every 10k miles and she will love you back  :sun:

I'm about to buy a new one and am still very nervous re. the oil issue. All the other hot hatches I've tried though seem to be lack lustre compared to the vRS. What do I do??????????????

Buy it, warranty takes away the worry in the main.  Chances are you will get a good one and be very happy.

Tried the Corsa VXR today and I have to say I really wanted to like the car but was so underwhelmed. I'm nearly there

If you would like a Automatic.

then maybe try a Renault Clio RS 200T,  it really is pretty pants IMO.

I would recommend you buy the Vrs, there are a few out there that represent extremely good value for money at the moment. We needed to buy an automatic for health reasons, a five door for family reasons, and one with a decent mpg for economy reasons. Turns out the wee fabia vrs does all three very well.

Plus it's quick enough to give other unsuspecting/ sneering drivers a fright and put a smile on your face at the same time.

And I would recommend even after having to go through the process of an engine change, we were unlucky as the vast majority are fine re oil use. It's still a good wee car, and the warranty took care of the engine change for us.

Buy.

Buy it! I'm rather liking them after driving one yesterday :)

My son's friend bought an ex demo Renault Clio RS200T a couple of months back, he's 21 and thinks it's the mutt's nuts. It's a smart looking car in pearl black, and he says it goes well. My son however isn't convinced and much to his friend's annoyance points out to him he thinks the Vrs is slightly quicker.

The young un's are mad I tell thee..

Buy 100%

Toxicvrs,

Wunderba.   at last,  so did it give you a wee surprise?

The RS 200T, has some wonderful things going for it, including Build Quality.

Under the bonnet is lovely, and the interior comfortable.

Just the Gearbox is not a patch on the DSG, and the car is slower.

Well one came into work for a wheel bearing job, there were 2 cars that were in the lot I could've picked from! A run of the mill A3 20TDI or a mk2 VRS so I thought I'll see what they're all on about and its a quick car, very smooth power delivery the auto box was better than I was expecting, the dash and all still felt a bit Skoda ish but at the price they are its a real consideration. I do a lot of rush hour driving which IMO it would be rather good for as well as cruising, I'll be honest I'm a bit of a convert!

And it's a Renault

The Skoda should have felt Skodaish, because it was,

a Budget version of the 4 Twincharger 132 - 136 kw,  the Lightest one, quickest one, and the least VW,ish one.

I was sent a Link to a 14 Plate vRS with 1000 miles on it for £11,000

Silver & Silver Wheels.  Very Q Car.  'Cloak of Invisibility'.

Yeah I know that was my only qualm over the 35 mile test and delivery! I would quite seriously look into one with a few years left on the warranty, get to know the car a bit more and then decide to keep long term or not!

No need to buy one with a few years Warranty left.

£7,000 will get you a good one, maybe 3-4 year old,

maybe with a Replacement Engine, & maybe with a new Engine & Gearbox.

& since Skoda Paid for those, and the car therefore has no known issues.

You need to be sure the ECU as was when the Engine Was fitted, not Remapped, just for the Warranty.

So £547 Buys a further 2 years 'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty'.

Cheap car, good engine and gearbox with 2 Years Warranty and not very expensive Insurance or running costs,

'Much Cheapness'.  IMO

I was looking on ebay at a black estate as you said that which was about £7k which really isn't bad for a 4 year old car! They don't seem to hold the value too well which is a pain for sellers but good for buyers after a bargain

Erm right so a 75bhp Clio costs me more to insure Standard and fully comp than a 180BHP Fabia estate! aabae8d87a3f7182989ae9f2a3395353.jpg

One of these might tempt me in the future
